I've managed to keep away from making knives with guards on them, but eventually it was going to happen. A couple of guys I met at the gym wanted me to make them each a hunting knife, but both wanted different designs. One guy wanted a replica of a knife he already owned, but requested carbon steel that was harder than his stainless blade. The other guy saw a Randall 25 and wanted something similar but with the same handle as the other guy's hunter. Both knives had brass guards, so challenge accepted. The fit was nice and tight, but not perfect. I look forward to making a knife with a regular guard, one that has a closed slot, and not an open one as shown in these examples. Both blades are made from 52100 ~63HRC, with claro walnut on one knife and cocobolo on the other. Thanks for looking!
