I have noticed on a LOT of the for sale posts that many of you quote a price including "Shipping CONUS", or "Will Only Ship CONUS".

The definition of CONUS is the CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES.

In other words, the lower 48 states.

Do you guys really mean to exclude buyers from Alaska and Hawaii from your sales?

Michael

CONUS is continental United States....for the military.

Shipping to Alaska and Hawaii usually costs more to ship.

I don't exclude, but when I quote a shipped price it is for CONUS. Shipping elsewhere will cost more, so the price will be higher.

not if I can ship via usps priority. Flat rate boxes cost the same to alaska and hawaii. For small items I understand only shipping US, but certainly not restricting it to the contiguous states.

I definitely do not mean this to sound snotty, but someone forgot to tell the Navy. This is directly off their website.

CONUS - "Continental United States." CONUS refers to the 48 contiguous states. It is not synonymous with United States. CONUS is acceptable on first reference.

Thanks for the clarification. As Last Visible Canary states Priority Flat Rate boxes are the same to Alaska as they are across town.

IMO, Last time I checked, North America is a Continent... including Canada and Alaska. Even Hawaii is considered part of the continent of North America. If you say CONUS, I always thought/mean/assume Alaska. I know what CONUS usually implies, but its kind of fuzzy, technically speaking. Contiguous and continental are two different things. What does "continental united states" even mean? There is no US outside of the continent of N.A. Am I just too drunk?

No, you are not too drunk. The whole thing is kind of fuzzy.

I definitely DID NOT mean to start anything or call anyone out. :foot:

If I am interested in a knife I will ask the seller if they want to sell and ship it to me and I will be told yes or no.

I guess that is all the answer I need.

Peace and Happy Friday Night!

Come on Michael! Everyone knows we live in igloos and drive dog sleds. And that the only time mail gets delivered is during the Iditarod.

I haven't encountered a seller yet that won't ship to Alaska. Our friends in Canada tend to be especially accommodating. But I agree with you that "CONUS only" tends to be a little aggravating. I have always added a "as long as you'll ship to Alaska" to my "I'll take it!"

a few extra $$'s shipping shouldn't kill a sale. buyer should be ready to pay though.

imho.

Is it still CONUS if the mail comes by barge?

Flat rate is the same for everyone. I have shipped to people all over this forum and have bought many knives. Priority mail is never more than 15 bucks for the big knives. I think I fit a FFBM diagonally in a medium flat rate box. So just about anything but a AK47/WAKI or MOAB will fit.
