Yesterday, tedwca joined me for a photo shoot, and then just shooting the breeze. Here's a pic from our photo excursion, yesterday:

Thanks for a great day, Ted.

Hi Mike, thank you for inviting me. I had a lot of fun, but I didn't get anything that nice. That is stunning!!

Absolutely Beautiful!!!!  :D
I have seen and know of several birds of prey but I sure don't recognize this one, at least from this view, anyone know what it is? The color and pattern absolutely escape me.

You're welcome, Ted. And thank you. Thanks, Mark. Thanks, Yvsa.

Yvsa,

It's a white tailed kite. I'll be shooting them, again, this weekend.

Thanks Mike! I'm not sure we have any kites here but I'll see what I can find out now. Our most prevalent raptor is the red tailed hawk but we also have some red shouldered hawks along with the prairie hawks, and Eagles of course around the rivers and lakes. :D

Red tailed hawks are prevalent, here, too. We also have red shouldered hawks, prairie hawks, golden eagles, and bald eagles, though those are somewhat uncommon. Also Cooper's hawks, sharp shinned hawks, osprey, peregrine falcons, kestrels, barn owls, burrowing owls, long eared owls... There are a lot of kinds of raptors around here, though you're not likely to see most of them much.

we have the red kites over here,

the white one is stunning and so is the picture, timing and composition, as well as focus and exposure are perfect.

Beautiful shots:eek: I've always been fascinated by raptors. We have a lot of red tailed hawk in the area that are always beautiful to watch...even if they are just cleaning up some road kill:D
We even have a few bald eagles nesting around some of the larger lakes. When I was kid in elementary school 20 years back, they talked about how rare they were and how we might not see them in the wild again.....And there they are today, soaring over the lakes free as...well, an eagle:D

was talking to my neighbor lunchtime, we looked up and there was a red kite soaring over our courtyard, by the time i went in & got the camera it was gone, durn it.

Dang. That pic is one in a million! Very nice!

Here's a couple of the ones I liked. They're not as stunning as yours, but nice anyway.
