Hi folks,
I have been working with iron for about four years and I recently started making small amounts of tamahagane (traditional Japanese steel) in my back yard. Between making charcoal and extracting iron from magnetite from West Virginia, I am trying to adhere to traditional methods in order to create a blade.
So far, I have been successful in creating ductile, carbon steel and I almost have enough material to build a medium-sized sword. But I am reserving my material for folding knives and fixed blade knives.
Anyhow, here is a short video of my Japanese bellow on it's first test-run in my fire pit back in July:
