Since I'm always using files to forge, I wanted to make a knife out of one, but leave the file shape on it, so I came up with this.

Blade is W1, bolster is bronze and the handle is maple.

Let me know what you think :)

Very nice! Some of the sharpest blades I've ever handled were forged from files...... :)

How do you do the ferrules like that? Did it start as a piece of tubing, or did you hollow out some solid piece of bronze? It has always been a mystery to me.

On this particular knife it's a piece of tubing as you say, as the original files are made that way and I wanted to do a fileknife, however, on other knives I use other methods.

For short bolsters, I heat solid pieces of bronze/copper untill 600-700 Celsius and then I hollow them. For long bolsters, I fill some tubings with melted bronze or copper.

Ariel
