Here's a bowie I start a week or so ago. My intent was to see how large of a blade I could get from the bar in the first picture. My plan was also to leave it forged finished so I took it further with the hammer than what I would if I was to forge a blade and then grind. As it is in the first picture the blade itself is 14" but while I was heat treating it I was also doing some straightening and got a little to forceful and ended up breaking 2" off the tip. Nice thing about the really large blades can be made smaller. I ended up forging a new tip. The new blade is 12 5/8" out of 5160. Fittings are iron with a really nice sambar stag handle. Overall its 18".

WOW! I love Bowies! That's an absolute beauty! Love the stag too! The guard is sweet too!

Your big bowies are some of the most stylistic I've ever seen. Flow is beautiful. It must come natural to you,.. cant imagine its all that "Simple".

Ray I Love your style..Love it and this might be one of my favorites from you!

Yes, I love your design Ray
Your large blade plus lazy S guard plus stag handle plus your overall finishing style looks so cool

I appreciate the feed back on this bowie!

Keith, I did save the broken tip from this knife and plan to make a 2" clip on extension for this blade. :D

Dave, You know what the worst thing is about these long clips? Keeping them straight.

I have to ask this. In the first and third image of the finished knife the are what appear to little black dots near the end of the swedge closest to the guard. Are they just dirt?
