Recently,in the "What Trad. knife are you carrying ?" thread,a member posted pics of a Normark slipjoint with plastic scales.Gary Graley remarked on how he had one once.
Well,I had one too,as a boy,and a ways back I saw an identical one on the bay,so I bid & bought it,just so I could have one like I once had as a kid.
It has been sitting idle for a while.
As a kid, back then,a friend & I had got these from his dad who swiped them out of his brothers bait & tackle store for us.My friend made a leather sheath for his. I used to cut thier lawn, his father was a tugboat mate & was out of town during the week,he'd pay me in tackle from his brothers place.Every week I'd wait to see what he hi jacked for me,coming home on Friday, the stuff was worth more than any cash then.We had a good racket going on ,lol.
He had to get Jack stuff too,so it was not unbearable for him to see me only, getting the goods. It was mostly fishing tackle, but one time these Normark knives were in the loot, what a bonus!

Well, when I saw that Gary had one once,I said to myself ,"I should send this ("this" , being a duplicate of my knife in white, that I had, too) to Gary & let him make a sheath. I wanted to do this so I could give the knife & sheath to my Son Ryan.I thought it would be a good thing for him to have in his stash of knives.I told him this whole story, too.
This knife has a Sandvik ss blade & is a bit big for the pocket, one reason my friend Jack made a sheath for his, back then.He used to sharpen his just for the sake of sharpening it,I think he liked honing it,more than the knife itself, the blade became dis figured.I lost mine somewhere.

So Gary hooked me up.Lemme tell you,his leather is impeccable.Certainly this sheath outdoes this knife here. His attention to detail is over the top, what a great man to deal with & a gentleman. They don't make guys like him no more, just as the days of cutting the nieghbors lawn for barter, are long gone, too. Thanks Gary, get home soon.

Thats a great story Vince... Made me think back to the days of my youth, and how simple things were then.

Thats a fine lookin combination, will make a great addition to your son's collection. I haven't had Gary do any sheath work (yet), but I would have to agree that his work looks terrific

Great story, knife and sheath. Ahhhhh the good old days, I'm only 34 and times where different in my younger days than they are now. I was able to wander my whole neighborhood and explore with my little SAKs and Schrades with never having a bad experience, except for a bully or two.:grumpy: Nowadays I don't feel safe about letting my kids wander about like I used too. Your son will love it I am sure.

That is a great looking sheath...and the Normarks are great little knives, will take an edge as sharp as anything. I still have two of the Normarks myself, one like yours and a "Big Swede"...but sadly no nifty sheath for them.

Mine will get passed along...someday...maybe...lol.

Nice story Vince. Would the Normarks be considered a sodbuster? Great looking sheath.I'll bet is smells as good as it looks.Nothing like the smell of good leather.

It's the Meatball Buster...lol. Seriously the small version is probably the Swedish version of our Soddies, a do anything, take a lot of punishment knife.

I had one of those Normarks too (about 40 years ago)
I think that is the Swede 45. Great little knife.
And G2s work is flawless as always.

New Jackknife on scene, thanks for sharing that story. Great work as always by Gary.

Nice story Vince. That sheath is a nice tribute to a working mans knife. Your son will treasure it.

Thanks guys and thanks Vince, as he also allowed me to hang onto that white
scaled folder :) comfy grip and sharp blade, always a nice combination.

Here was the quick shot taken with the white handled knife in place, snaps in
nice and secure,

The white looks great against that mahogany brown of the sheath. The fit and finish is absolutely top rate and the small detailing around the top is just enough. With the white EKA (I think, that is what mine is marked) the stitching really pops and looks even better. I doubt I will ever get a sheath that nice for mine so I decided to mod mine instead by adding a lanyard tube and making it an easy opener.

Thanks, it is pretty high contrast but didn't look too off beat.
Good idea on the lanyard tube, always like a lanyard on a knife.
