I designed this little fellow to be a versatile knife for outdoor and/or urban use.

It weighs a scant 84 grams, (141 grams with sheath and pocket clip) has an overall length of 6.5 inches, with a 2 7/8" blade of .125" thick A2. Now, if you're having problems with my mixing standard and metric, join the club🤪

Its sheath is designed for pocket or neck lanyard carry, and is also compatible with Tecloc. The knife locks into the sheath, a characteristic of most of the sheaths I make, and the pierced handle allows easy unsheathing by way of hooking the tip of a finger into it. For neck carry, an additional safety strap will be an option, but I haven't made that stuff yet.

For an urbanite, the DCC, (or Ulticlip) clip allows the knife to ride comfortably in the pocket or iwb. For the outdoors person, neck carry keeps it out of the way of your pack while allowing easy access, or the Tecloc can be employed to fix it firmly to one of your pack straps.

This knife is an aggressive cutter, with a very fine edge. Perfect for peeling apples, cleaning fingernails or making shavings for your camp fire.

The handle material is some kind of lighting strike carbon fibre. It's a terrible material to work with and I'll never use it again. This knife was tricky enough to make so if I ever make any more I'll save myself the headache by using something more boring.

Thanks for looking!

Nice 1 mate, very handy design.
I could see this 1 with copper scales or textured aluminuum.
Thanks for sharing.

That’s really nice work. Making more? Maybe in micarta or G10?

thanks folks!
I'll likely be doing a similar knife down the road. It might have glow in the dark handle material. The other thing I had in mind would be a nicely polished burlap micarta.

Very nice. I like the way the handle is done so that there's material around the edge for comfort but not extra weight.

Makes me think that a Carothers 'backpacker' would be pretty sweet :D

Very nice design Lorien Lorien . I agree with Random Dan Random Dan ’s comments on the attributes of the handle design. The blade shape is reminiscent of your original CPK EDC design with some DEK 3 influence in the reverse tanto swedge. The overall size and lightweight handle design looks perfect for a knife that gets carried a lot but doesn’t weigh you down.

The bottom line is I like it. Small, capable, and easy to carry. What’s not to like about that. I hope this prototype makes it into production. 👍

thanks Phil!
I wouldn't necessarily think of this knife as a prototype, it's more of a proof of concept at this point. It's splitting hares, for sure, but there is a subtle difference.

I definitely designed it with the CPK EDC in mind- kind of a possible expansion of the EDC line, just because I love that CPK EDC so much. Not just as an excellent tool to use, but that design really sealed the deal between me and Nathan, since I presented him my proof of concept in person at Blade show. It was such a memorable experience and I felt a real warm and fuzzy connection with Nate and Jo, so the design is pretty special to me also for sentimental reasons.

But, this is just a knife I made from a design I came up with and we'll see what happens. CPK is too smoking busy these days, pumping out all sorts of pretty much brand new patterns, to even have time to think about jamming up the whiteboard further- so no expectations. But, I will say- however unlikely- if another company offered to license this exact design, I'd say no and instead offer to come up with something that looks different.

I'm pretty sure I'll flesh out the concept further and outsource the cutting of the blanks and handle scales and produce something like this myself in larger numbers, (than one, lol) at some point.

Whipped together a necklace this evening. Requires further refinements but the concept is sound and simpler than I had in mind.

^ Thanks Lorien for sharing your thought process and the video clip of the neck sheath. I am definitely interested if you make a small batch of these knives.

Lorien, this knife is 100% class.

Everything about this is great and I really like the sheath you came up with for it too!
