I just thought I would share a small build I did on a sheath for one of my knives. I learned most of my leather work from Leodis Leather on youtube and I'm still trying to refine my product.

for some reason I only put one coat of resist on my tooling (I don't know what I was thinking) so it didn't work out quite like planned and even though it doesn't look as good as it should, it doesn't look terrible enough to throw away. Lesson learned.

I still struggle getting round lines while tooling. Some of my flower curves have straight lines but I suspect I just need more practice. I'm also not getting as much depth as I would like. I think I need to find a good beveler set. Any suggestions? I do have a couple Berry King bevelers but my main beveler is a craft tool. I also use a Berry King swivel knife. Like anything, I suspect I just need to slow way down.

Please feel free to chime in on what I need improvement on. I will never get better without critique and I would really like to grow with my leather work.

Thanks for looking,

Looks great! Ive been dabbling in sheath making and find it very enjoyable. I want to mess around with doing patterns and such one day but for now Im sticking to getting the basics down!

Good job Todd. On the carving ya hit it on the head, practice practice practice. The curved lines being straight is really the difference between carving and great carving and that does take practice getting er right. What did you use for your resist? I normally only use one coat of RTC when resisting. This pic of a brand on a pair of chinks, the yoke was dyed saddletan (Fiebings oil dye), then one coat of RTC and then Fiebings dark brown antique paste.

Thank you all!

Dave,

I use Super Sheen. Awesome Chinks! Love the conchos! I will have to give RTC a try. I was also using dark brown antique paste.

I gave this arrowhead 3 coats and it pretty much left it natural color which was what I was after with the tooling.

this gave me the motivation i needed to tool again ... tooling a flower pissed me off once lol. Last time i tooled a flower i had a sudden urge to run my wifes flower bed over with the lawn mower swinging a chain saw over my head sporting war paint on my face.

Good deal Todd, it sure worked on that arrowhead. I really like that RTC. Its a little glossy for me as a finish so when I use it as a resist I'll usually stick a coat of BagKote on after the antique has dried. Thats what I did with these chinks. Thanks. If ya like the conchos ya might like what the lady that ordered these for her husband had me do on the other side:

That sheath looks great Todd. Once I learn to cut my pieces out well enough, I'll give carving a shot!
Dave, your work is outstanding.

Tod that sheat looks really good to me with nice colour. As I said many times before I love the colour of Daves work:thumbup:
