I got home last night and had to take out all the knives to re-introduce my Satin Jack. After picking them all up I decided I really liked the grip I could get with the Satin Jack handle design. I like the smaller profile of the handle and wonder what it would be like to have a handle like the Satin Jack with a blade like the Natural Outlaw.

What do you guys think? Do you like the size of the ergo handle or what?

edited to add; I love my ergo knives but at times think they would work better for me with a little bit shaved off the top and bottom... like 1/8" on either side.... is this something Jerry could do? Has anyone?

I love the way the Ergos feel, but I have big hands. I think, though, that a smaller (possibly tapered) tang would be interesting on a Busse heavy blade, as it would shift the balance forward for better chopping, like the large Swamp Rat knives. Would certainly be interesting. :)

That is the reason I have sold or traded all my Ergos. I loved them, just couldn't get used to the handle being too big. It seems unnaturally wide to me for some reason. I'm 5'10" with average build and if I'm out using a knife and it feels like I cant get a good grip on it (especially a chopper) it must go :( . Thank heaven for the older straight handle Busses, they feel perfect (pending test of Fusions.. :D )

I totally agree,I love the Busse blades but they are to handle wide and heavy for me.I have always favored blade heavy knives, they require much less effort when chopping imo.If the blade falls heavier than the handle then you are working less hard to swing it.The simonich knives have the tangs cut out under the handle slabs to reduce handle weight,I like this feature and would luv to see it on a Busse knife!

I don't mind the weight of the ergos at all, I just want to get a slightly, and I mean slightly, better grip on them... I don't think i will ever part with my .25" Satin Jack again, and if there is a way to thin out the ergo handles I may just be all over it... I think that with a slightly thinned out grip I would be in heaven!

I have been tempted to try a little grinding myself, but am a bit scared of messing it up...

I love the E-handles. The one fault I always found with my BB SH 2 was that the handle was too small. Ditto for the Satin Jack.

Mtnclimber69,

Although I have not held one yet, I'm guessing the handle on the new NO's will be more comfortable than the E-handle. While I have somewhat adapted to the E-handle, it is too wide (as measured from top to bottom, not side to side) for my medium size hand. I think you are right that a little removed from the top & bottom of the handle would make it more comfortable.

I adapt my hand to most shaped handles so long as it has a guard, but I do love the ergo’s.
I also think you need to be standing over a bench for a day cutting meat up, or chopping for a long period to really test what’s comfortable.

Ian you have a good point in terms of comfort during use. I have taken my SH-E camping many times and used it to cut up many thick braches with diameters between 1-4 inches. For the most part I can't say I ever had discomfort, I just prefer the feel of the thinner SJ handle, but then to be fair I never cut up much of anything with it, well except one unlucky orange...for Spearhead.

i have average sized hands and i really like the ergo bm. i never got to try one of the originals but i doubt if i would ever trade the e-handle for anything. i bet it will out perform all the others without effort! i think people never got behind the new blade shape
