A sort of Scagel

Seems as if I'm trying my hand at everything. I drew this up as something else, but after bringing the blade up to polish and making a bowie type guard for it, I changed my mind ...I still don't really know why I did this, it just seemed to make sense (as in having fun) to go where the materials were beckoning me.

Still needs an edge and my mark. 9.25" blade, 15.25" OAL. 3/16" 154CM, convex ground on Rob Frink's Rotary Platten. I call it a "sort of" because it's'not a purist's Scagel - it's not forged nor does it have the classic blade shape - the crown is also Sambar - not domestic & some other stuff.

Looks much better than a Scagel, IMHO. What is the guard? Brass?

Bob that's beautiful! I like that nice long blade and your very Scagel-like handle. Makes me want to post one I just finished! :D But I'll wait till after Blade. Are you going by any chance?

Dave

Joss - the guard is 416 stainless & thats water buffalo horn right behind it.

Dave - I really wish I were going to Blade - but if I went as an observer and not a participant, I would probably spend a dangerous amount of money.. I'm on the wait list to show, but that probably won't happen. I have a free place to stay about 20 min from the Cobb, so if I can get in next year, I'll go. I have the NCCA show in Stamford, CT on 6/21-22 & have about 16 or more new ones for that. I may post some just before that show (just after Blade).

Bob,
That is a really well done piece. It looks like a very squared away knife done in the Scagel tradition. Excellent work!

All the best,
Mike U.

Beauty! I think that's an excellent job. It's kinda Scagal but, in your own style. I love it!

Awsome! I love everything about it, from blade shape to handle treatment, think ol' Scagel would have loved that one.

Hey Bob,

She's a purdy one for sure. You wouln't want to trade her for a little Texaco type A would you? I think I have 2 or 3 gallons around here somewhere....:D

Keep up the good work!
Rick

Thanks for the kind words, folks - NECKA people - see you & your new stuff at Stamford. Rick - was that 2or 3 barrels? ...hopefully a future one will see a quench in that Type A you sent!
