A sorta dumb question?

The only store near me that carries Spyderco knives is about a 45 minute drive, I was there last week and they had Enduras and Delicas, but they were in blister packs and I want to be sure I am getting an Endura 4 with the new blade.

Is there a way to tell on the packaging which one it is?

Nothing on this one said "Endura 4", but I rarely see Spydercos in stores, so I am not up on their procudt codes.

Thanks!

One of the main differences between the "4" and earlier models is that the clip has a 3 screw attachment and the handle allows right or left handed and tip-up or tip-down attachment. The earlier Endura had a barrel-bolt which allowed right or left handed, but tip-up only attachment.

There are also changes in the handle texturing and blade shape but the clip attachment is the best way to identify the "4" quickly (and with the blade closed in a clam-pack).

Hope this helps!

David

Actually, the Endura 4 and Delica 4 both have the 4 as part of the name, moulded right into the scale. If the 3 screw clip isn't enough evidence, that is :D. Consider yourself lucky to live so close to a retailer, if I want something other than a Native, I have a two and a half to eight hour drive, depending on which shop I want to visit :barf:

Thanks, that was the main reason I held off buying one, I couldn't find anything on them that said "4" but in the back of my mind was something about the new ones using screws in the construction. The ones I saw had rounded off smooth "rivits" holding them together.

What you see depends on which side of the knife you're looking at. The right side show the torx heads, but if the left side is showing, the heads would look identical to rivets, as in the Delica photos below. The best ways of IDing the Gen 4 knives in a clam pack would be the clip mounting pads at each end of the handle, and the logo on the oval "badge" molded into the handles.

Deacon: did you put the handle scales of a ZDP Delica on your standard, CE Delica? If so, do you just have a ZDP blade lying around somewhere, or did you put it in the black scales?

The ZDP one is blue, REALLY blue
I'm looking at a ZDP-189 Delica right now, and it looks really similar to that grey/green mix. Maybe I'm just color confused...
