So i have this co-worker that recently (about 6 months ago) lost his father. I understand that he is the oldest and therefore the executor of his fathers will (the co-worker is late 50s in age and i suppose that would make the father late 70s. Anyways, he is apparently finishing up the inevitable aftermath of losing a parent and dealing with their things.

So i came into work last thursday and he reaches in his pocket and says here, and hands me a knife. I knew pretty quickly it was pretty special. But after him telling me that it was his fathers, i could not accept it. But he refused my refusal saying that his father had a entire drawer full of knives and he knew i would appreciate it. So i told him that i would clean it up and show it to him when i cleaned and sharpened it and if he wanted it back, it would be no problem. He said that if he ever got to feeling nostalgic he has an entire drawer full of memories

so all that being said, i i have cleaned her up. here she is
I think she was carried alot (the striations in the delrin are pretty darn faint) but the blades appear to be pretty full
full flat grind and if i am reading the tang stamp correctly, she older than i thought (67-72)

All in all, i am impressed, flattered and excited cause i have never picked up the 303 and it was ironic that was the knife HE chose to share.

Few things passed on after a person is gone have meaning like knives and guns. it was a part of his life.

Sometimes we have to learn to accept things graciously. Your co-worker obviously knew that you were a knife collector and he thought enough of you that he wanted to share his fathers legacy with you. You are a lucky man to have the co-worker for a friend and to have a new addition to your collection.

Nice. He apparently thinks alot of you and knew you would appreciate and take care of it.

A Camillus-made Buck. Pre-1985.

Rsmith_77,
Your story says alot.
You must be a good friend to Your co-worker for Him to give You something personal of His Fathers.
And Your friend must have had a Great Father that taught him to share.
That Buck folder is a BEAUTY.

Gifts like that are worth more than a pile of money.

That's good Tim, You're sharp.

It looks beautiful; funny how an old warn knife can strum a cord. I'm glad it's Yours.

Thank You for posting this.

That's a way for the co-worker to give a new life to something that belonged to his father. You had to accept it so the memories will remain. A nice gesture from both of you.

Thanks guys.

I was definitely flattered. But he was off friday and i was off yesterday (store closed on sundays). So i will show him tomorrow the final cleaned up look. But i am pretty sure he is going to be adamant about me keeping it, so i will endeavor to do so with grace as suggested above.

We both work for a local ace hardware store and i am always bringing a knife in for the collection to show off so i guessing he picked up on my knife knuttiness somewhere along the way.

Great friend to think enough of you and share one of his father's knives with you. I am sure his father would be happy to know that his son shared one of his knives with someone who really appreciates knives. You should carry and enjoy it not only in honor of your friend but also to his father.
