Hi Everybody,

a little story.

For many years while I lived in Arizona, I would show at the Gun Shows in Tucson and Phoenix.
Selling/promoting my sheaths and holsters since 1999. Over the years I met a lot of characters. if you want to meet some interesting folks hang around gun shows. any how about 2006 or so I older fella in his late 60's early 70's named Bob comes up. he is an old time knife collector and is admiring my new fangled tactical knives and such. Bob seems to like the hatchets.

So after talking for a while and him admiring my kydex work he asks if I do custom work, I say of course I have made some unique combos over the years. He asked if I have ever made a sheath for a meat cleaver ? I tell him I have made blade covers for several chefs knives and parring knives and such but not a cleaver and tell him I can make him a blade cover. He says " No I do not want a blade cover I want and actual sheath. I want to carry it !" I say carry it ? Ok, thinking he must be a butcher or something ? He goes on to tell me no he is not a butcher or meat cutter he carries a Cleaver for self defense !!!! I say self defense ? wow have not heard that one before, then I remembered all those old kung fu movies I watches as a kid in the 80's when the Triad bad guys would carry kitchen cleavers :)

Bob said yep that is right .
Then he said (and this has stuck with me) ;
"Anyone can carry a knife, but you got to be a special kind of crazy to carry a cleaver !!"

I think what he meant was if you carry a cleaver people know you will use it and probably be good with it :)

I made Bob several Cleaver sheaths, even and IWB sheath :)

Old Bob passed on about 6 or 7 years ago.

I will always remember the cleaver carrying friend of mine.

Good Story Dave, Bob sounds like he was a cool guy and the Real Deal.

How much does one of those Bob Cleaver sheaths run? :") It looks fantastic.
 
Haha, I love that story! I used to go out to AZ to ride sand in the winter and party on the river in the summer. Those true hardcore leather looking 'Zonies are a a special kind of crazy. Indeed! Thanks for sharing.

Now please let there be a busse cleaver in my grab bag so I can order one of your sheath.

I edited to add, my good buddy Rawly (one of my buddies who I gave a BGAD to because he'd use it) asked me if I'd sharpen one of those cheap harbor freight cleavers for him. I gave it a full convex and returned it to him. Asked him what it was for and he said it's for "rude people that cut him off in San Diego traffic while he's on call (plumber). FWIW his nickname is Gimley the Battle Dwarf amongst us brothers, so there's a visual.

What's wrong with that?!??

Why wouldn't you carry a cleaver? You might run into a pork roast that needs to be chopped up for sammiches! :D
