Hello all.

Hope you've had a better week than I have. Found out why my computer has been working like pile of rusty cogs-a virus  Also, someone keeps trying to hack into it  All this new found knowledge curtesy of Nortons Internet Security 2002. Still, that is not the point to this thread.

As some of you know, I bought an AK Bowie in one of Uncle Bill's deal of the day threads. As fine a knife as it is, it isnt really for me ( I dont think at my age my hands are going to grow any bigger ).

Sooo, with Uncle Bill's kind permission to post here, I am offering the said knife ( well, halberd blade with a handle ) at the original UBDOTD price of $125-including insured postage from the UK. Yep, thats right, one AK Bowie-brand spanking new, all in, for $125. I'll even lie on the customs form for you;)

What's the catch you ask. Well, I will only ship to the USA, UK, EU or Canada on this deal. And, with the exception of payment by PayPal, payment would have to be in UK currency ( £ sterling ) or US Dollars cash ( my bank doesnt accept money orders in US dollars-useless sods that they are ). Alternatly, you could wire the money via Moneygram ( see www.moneygram.com for details ).

Preference is given to PayPal prospective buyers. My email is m.j.j.becker@btinternet.com .

I'm off to bed now, so I wont be able to reply to anyone until tomorrow ( its after 11pm here now ).

P.S. The first person to mail me the balls of the inventor of the Nimda virus can have the knife gratis;)

I have one customer, in France, who uses Western Union to pay. I pick up the money at the local Kmart -- it's a hassle.

Well, I believe I have a buyer for the knife. Working through the how the money is going to reach me stage.

I mentioned in the other cantina how nice it would be to have a nice Spanish style bowie made up. Something a little more reduced in dimensions than the standard HI model. Maybe it would be a good idea to get a model made up. Anyone else interested in a Spanish bowie pattern?

My own woodworking skills are a touch rusty ( think sunken WW2 battleship ) but I could get a model done up to my specs ( I know a good joinery business near me ).

Think I might have a touch of this HIKV. I've started selling off my Al Mar collection ( didnt see the point in having a pile of knives that were going to plummet in value at the slightest use ) along with most of the other folders. I spend my time admiring my khuk's instead. Quite a change for a life long folder admirer!

My Bowie and all my boots have been turned into Khuks, and looking aroud for something else to sell :D

Funnily enough I dont feel bad. More of a relief ( spent too much time worrying about burglars running off with irreplacable things ).

It's a damn shame Al Mar died-for him ( most of all! ), his family and his company. Its all gone to hell now :( ( please, spare me the SERE 2000 etc, speach. Al Mar was never about ugly knives, and THAT is ).

I never bought the damn things for them to end up sitting in a drawer. And why the hell doesnt anyone make a nice micarta scaled lockback anymore? Bah

I bought my HI's to use, and use them I will, but they are still a thing of beauty ( just not so easy to slip in the pocket for weddings and suchlike as an Al Mar ;) ).

Michael,

The Microtech LCC is a pretty good micarta handled folder.

I miss the old Al Mar company too. They could always be counted on to produce interesting and well executed knives. As far as I am concerned the current company is not worthy of the name.

I have thought about getting one of the Lightfoot LCC's. Not 100% decided yet though. I would like a smaller sized model, but it doesnt look like one is forthcoming. And if they made a lockback version, well, now we would be talking.

Yep, Al Mar knives is a very poor shell of its past glory. Moki and Sakai ( present and former makers of the Al Mar's ) make some nice knives but are no so easy to come by. I have a couple of Moki's, though I cant get my hands on the one I want the most. C'est la vie.
