This may be a personal thread...and this may be the booze talking, but some of us, including me, don’t care to share personal facts too often.

I was curious on how many others have a Busse/Kin knife that holds more than special place.

May 2017: I got my first Busse/Kin knife ; A Ratmandu, Black canvas on Sage coating.
My wife got me this knife on my first Father’s Day, shortly after we found out we were having twin girls. This knife will be with me until I finally meet Him.

Since then, my Swamp and Yard have grown (see below).

Anyone else have a Busse/Kin model that holds a special place?

In 2002 I ordered one of the first Active Duties offered. The first edition was a Custom Shop satin with snakeskin handles.
Also in 2002 my then 21 year old daughter was near death from a hit and run (she was a pedestrian at the time.) She suffered severe head injuries, a broken pelvis, a cracked eye socket, a lacerated liver, and her right knee was destroyed. As she lay in a coma the doctors said that she would always be that way. One intern said that we were being foolish with our efforts to provide daily stimulation to her because she would always be what we were seeing. My wife would bring in things with various textures like various kinds of cloth, sand paper, balloons, etc. to rub on her fingers and cheeks. We played classical music on her headset. I frequently had long one way conversations with her.

Months later, as she lay in a vegetative state in a nursing home, the AD came. I held it in front of her eyes and told her that it was hers and
I was putting it away for her to carry when she could deer hunt with me.

I told this story on this forum. A few days later a package came from Busse Combat. Inside was another Custom Shop AD with a note from Jennifer and Jerry Busse, saying that they wanted to replace the knife I gave to Kim.

I gave it a place of highest honor among my Busse collection by making it one of my few users. I would have to say that it is my favorite user even today. Truly a great little knife and truly great people.

A few years later I wheeled her into a local gun shop to select a deer rifle. she is so short that I knew a youth model was required.
Her eyes lit up when the clerk handed her a Rossi single shot .243, and that is the one she would not hand back. Off to the range, where this little girl who had never shot a centerfire rifle, with hands and arms that were totally useless for about two years after the hit and run, shot a 50 yard three shot group that could be covered by the mouth of a coffee cup. I told her that anything within 50 yards was going to be hers and I would take anything over 50. That fall we spent a day in a shooting house, that she climbed an eight foot ladder to get into, with her knife and rifle. No deer that day, but a time that we both will always remember.

Kim has another special Busse also. When I first took her to the Blade Show, we attended the second ever Hog induction dinner. They made a big deal over her, inducting her as the second ever Hoggette. (Busse history question for the old timers: Who was the first?) the Busse crew gave her an inducted hog T-shirt and a special Steel Heart E. Printed on the blade was: Busse Combat guts award to our hero Kim. People who know her can vouch that she has never had any problem with being the center of attention and she had a ball that night.

Ooooh Mr Hamhocks! I met Kimmy at Blade 2004 (when you and I first met)!
Was the first Hoggette Idasow? Shaggy?
Odd, but my usually clear memory is a bit fuzzy from that weekend... : o)

In late August 2001 my mother died; my father had passed away several years before, so it was a big change having lost both parents. Three weeks later it was 9/11/01 and life changed for most people. I had been looking at Busse knives before that, and I finally decided to take the plunge – I bought a Basic 9 in late 2001 and a Satin Jack in early 2002. I still have those knives, and likely always will.
