Here is something different. Mace has been heading the blacksmithing shop at the Guilford Art Center in Guilford CT, and has invited me there 2 years running now to teach a hammer making class. It's a blast and Mace is a most gracious host as is the Guilford Art Center. Well Last time I was there Mace had mentioned one of his Customers had expressed interest in a hammer, so we got to talking and figured we would make one up together as a collaboration under our new "Four Hands" banner and here it is. The head is 1045, Handle is Curly Birdseye Maple if I remember correctly with Silver inlay with Japanese inscription "Shower of Sparks", metal wedge is titanium. It bears both my maker's mark, Mace's along with his JS, and the 4 hands logo as well as 3 flowers to follow the Japanese theme underneath. I am honored to work with a guy so skilled as Mace, this will for sure not be the last time this happens. Here is the Coop photo! and an awesome photo it is!

Oh my, beautiful work by all! Mace, Sam and Coop! As if tools weren't heirloom items to begin with, I can see justifying beeing burried with that!

How do you shape the face? Freehand on a slack belt?

Sam, great looking hammer.

I don't know how to tell you this gently, but the inscription reads;
"I showered with Mace"....hopefully we can keep this between the two of us ( and Mace, he knows,too.)

Now I'm supposed to join in with my input?:rolleyes:

This was a fun project and I look forward to working with my buddy Sam doing some more Four hands work.:thumbup:
I was mostly glad that I had the chance to work on the handle alone with out Sams death wind cloud blowing me out of the shop!:eek:
That boy aint right!

Next project...."Sparkle heart"!

But it's all black and rusty and scaley.

You know you can get shiny new hammers in Harbour Freight for $5 right ?

Nice hammer. The handle shape flows like a piece of bamboo, it really tops off the Japanese look.
