So this past Saturday I was emitted to the ER because I apparently had an ulcer on an artery and nearly bled to death. But now I'm out and recovering so I feel that I need a new knife! I'm looking for something different and got about $350 to spend. Don't really care if it's a folder or a fixed blade I'm just looking for it to be memorable any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Woady

glad you made it, ulcers kill lots of people, an ulcer on an artery makes me think you broke a mirror or walked under a ladder recently :-P. what to get depends on what you have already, but i'll do my part to suggest any spyderco. If you don't have a sebenza already, this is probably the time to bite the bullet and get one. I don't have one, but that seems like a good, i almost died knife. From what i have, id suggest a spyderco military. You never know when you'll have to do some surgery on yourself, and the military is a solid choice for that :D

That Mike Irie is sweet! I have a Model 11 and love it. Mike is a great maker.

The fluted Military suggestion is also a goodun'!:)

Just wanted to add that I had a heart attack one month ago. Made it through, as it could have been worse. I too had to reward myself with a new knife. You know you are a true knifenut when you reward yourself for not kickin' the bucket!!:D:D:thumbup:

Haha most random reason to buy a knife ever. Glad everything turned out alright. I'm guessing you're probably like most of us and have a bunch of knives from the "big three," so I'd suggest getting something more unusual, like an Al Mar or limited Böker or Pohl Force.

DDR/HTM Gunhammer with G10 inlays would be right about at the top end of your budget. I think they look pretty groovy. Hope you get well soon.

EDIT: just noticed that Mike Irie Model 6... that looks sweet for the money and would probably get my vote too.

I appreciate the well wishes I'm doin pretty good. Also thanks for the suggestion those knives look pretty impressive

I've never met Mike Irie or communicated with him in any way but a while back at a show I saw some of his knives on Moorecutlery's table as Gary is a friend of mine we got to talking about him and about 6 months later I had a custom TS-5 Fixed blade made to my specs to only have 1 sharp edge instead of the standard 2. His work is incredible he just doesnt get the press time as other makers due to no internet site etc. Techniligy is king. It's great to find someone that does great without it though. The Fixed blade never misses a trip to the woods or fishing. His stuff is priced and built to be used and used hard.

Wilson Combat has had two special/distinctive CR Knives made for them - a StarTac, based on the Umnumzaan, and a StarBenza, based on the small Sebenza. They are $30 more than a regular Umnumzaan and small Sebenza - but shipped free. I commemorated my first SS retirement payment last September with my StarTac, shown below with my favorite .38/.357M, bought a year ago:

The small Sebenza, the StarBenza, is out of stock - but they just got a few more of their StarTac, like mine above. It is slightly larger than a large Sebenza - but it is a great pocket knife - one you'd be proud of. It's a few $ over your limit... but worth it. Actually, a regular small Sebenza is a great way to celebrate your survival - and I am just glad you get to - congratulations!
