I wanted to send out a big Thank You to Thomas W, Kershaw and of course Ken Onion.

Many moons ago (alright, sometime last Fall), I noticed that Kershaw had released a production model of Ken Onions Spade design, released in two sized called the Cyclone and Mini-Cyclone. I had fallen in love with this pattern but knew the chances of getting a custom Onion are slim to none, and that is if you have the money in your pocket when lightning strikes.

I posted on these forums how much I loved the design and hoped that Kershaw would do a limited run of these knives in a titanium framelock, as they had with the Leek model. It turns out I was not alone in thinking this was a good idea (it had been brought up before, as a matter of fact), and our friendly Kershaw representative Thomas W looked into the idea and set things in motion.

So today I received a package containing the fruits of Thom’s efforts, Ken’s genius and Kershaw’s labor, the Kershaw model 1636TIZDP.

I could not be more impressed with the knife, the quality of materials, fit and finish, and beauty of the design are a tribute to everyone involved in its production. I collect framelock knives and have examples from all the top companies and many fine custom makers, and I have to say this Mini-Cyclone holds it’s own with the best of them.

Titanium framelock, ZDP-189 blade steel, optional speed-safe assisted opening in one of the most attractive and comfortable designs I have seen or handled. It sets a new standard for knives in it’s price range, dollar for dollar it is the finest folder of it’s type on the market today.

I really want to single out Thomas W for making this knife happen, for taking the time to listen to the input from the members of this forum and get the company he works for to follow through and produce such a great product.

Take pride in a job well done.

I guess you can't get it without the black coating? It's kinda neat looking with the black though.

Please, let me join this and also say big "Thank you" to Thomas W. His hard work in a year completely change Kershaw appearance at least at this forum. I do not know any other company which pay so much attention to our voice, listen to us and respect our opinions. With all this continue to deliver very attractive new models like JD series etc.

Thanks, Vassili.

wow ok for some reason i just...am breathless at this design..simple yet practical..i don't understand why i like it so much...darn u and doing a good job...

I too had to buy the knife despite being low on funds. Thomas is indeed plugged in to the desires and wants of us knife buyers. It's for that reason I wish continued successes and hope to see him climb the ladder in his professional life.

Having knife people as descision makers really is a big asset to the knife buying community. Look at the good Sal Glesser and A.G.Russell have done, and the improvements throughout the industry we've seen since the 70's.

A big thanks to Thomas W., as well as Sal Glesser, A.G. Russell, and the rest of the movers that have advanced the industry as a whole.

I hope they are with us, contributing and driving the industry foreward for a long time to come. Joe

Thomas W is the reason that I own six Kershaw's

Well said! He is one of the reasons I own dozens of Kershaws. The second reason is that they are excellent knives with excellent features and designs.

Thomas is the kind of representative that every company in America should have. Too many companies are run by people that don't care about the finished product, or don't use the finished product (the housing industry comes to mind, as does the hand tool industry). Thomas is a knife lover first and an executive second, which means we are very lucky consumers!

You've heard me say it before Thomas, but thanks again for your incredible generosity and for your great spirit and love for knives!

I am also a Kershaw fan and believe that if more people would just take a look at the fit and finish and overall quality of their products they would realize that dollar for dollar they are really hard to beat.

Please add my kudos to Thomas as he has been very helpful.

John

I think it's pretty awesome that a company that originally made many of their knives for Mass Market, is now making a higher quality knives because of listening to people on this forum. Thomas is the main reason for this happening.

I've found myself more and more picky on the knives I buy. Kershaw is getting a good share of those choices. Thanks Thomas.

I agree with the above posts, and I must say I am glad this thread was started. Love my ZDP Cyclone and Junkyards :D
Appreciate you Tom

I just recieved my second one of these knives, by Christmas they will be as rare as hen's teeth and I expect I'll find someone on my list who deserves one!

Ditto St James, Thomas did us all a great favour in listening and pushing the
sprint run of these great folders, here is a Link to my photos and discussion of my recent every day carry ;)
