Spontoon’s are pure weapons, I can’t think of any other practical uses, although later
they were used as ceremonial ‘hawks. This thing is SCARY. 9 and 1/2″ across from the
point to the “belly ripper” sharpened spike.

Forged from a at least 100 yr. old plow point on charcoal , hot cut, hot filed, quenched in brine
water, all hand work. Haft is 20″ Oak split from firewood, drawknifed, oiled and toasted. No dye.
The head is burned threw in the old Celtic way, stuffed with pine pitch glue and wrapped with rawhide. The hand grip is garment
leather from a bag and wrapped with deer rawhide.

I'm stitching on a rawhide/fringed blade cover now.
This is my first weapon that I can’t call a tool of some sort and I’m kinda on the fence as to make
more but it was a fun and a very unusual experience…..Randy

Another beauty Bro. I really like pointy blade hawks, they make great throwers. Yup, pretty much a weapon ;-)))

I know you have your dogs to initially welcome (?) people to your house. Are you going to hang this next to the door for anyone that gets by the dogs? Another awesome piece of work Randy.

PS I bet Edwood could put fear in people with this bad boy.

Thanks Brother Robin. I'm afraid to throw this one. Way too many sharp edges twirling for my throwing style, I might take off multiple appendages, mostly mine.

Thanks Howard. The dog thing sounds good but we have Mastiffs. That means you would have to wake them up and probably drive around them to get to the house. Unless you smell like cheese doodles, then you have a new best friend......Randy

The Spontoon Tomahawk is the original tactical tomahawk and it's too bad there aren't more of them on the market.

I sent an email to Cold Steel some time ago suggesting they make one but I haven't heard back from them.

They'd probably bugger it up anyway.

Pure evil brother… that thing is just evil. I love it. The belly ripper is the perfect addition to this monster. It’s a no win situation with that weapon.

Thanks Chris, means a lot Mate

Thanks Wolf , the spontoon shape was probably a spear stuck threw a stick.
I have a pic somewhere of a Celt one that dates way back. Makes sense it was the evolution from stone axes to modern 'hawks.

Brother Edwood, you are right. It feels evil in the hand. Big and heavy and no other use than to dispatch life.
The war against mean people is the only reason to resurrect these things......Randy

Here's a museum pic of a trade spontoon w/ added decorations from late 1800's.. Kind of my inspiration for this one. And then I added the "Brother Edwood belly ripper" option

Randy thats a awesome job, I like it. Great to take on a camping trip to open up your canned items. Maybe I could sharpen my crayons. KT:):p

Thanks Terry , that's a use I haven't thought of yet so maybe it is a tool. I think if your crayons get any sharper an intervention will be in order....And I'll bring the 'shine and bratts......Randy.
