Hey guys, just figured I would post a picture of a recent work that I "completed" (I would still like to make a sheathe for it). I recently received some deer antlers from a close family friend and as a result have been very excited to use them as handles. This is my second knife so far with the antlers and the second time I've ever worked with bone. Very interesting experience. The knife is a Hand forged 13" (massive) Bowie Made out of an old (at least I believe it was old) Nucut Simonds "Made in the USA" File. Unfortunately through forging and filing/grinding I've lost all trace of it every being a file. I used fabric spacers in between the handle, walnut, and metal bolster. I ran out of glue so I started mixing adhesives (what fun) and well it worked but I'll need to be sure to have enough epoxy on me next time I decide to use fabrics.

Eighty people have viewed your post Matt and not left a comment. Like me I am sure they are all thinking the same thing but none of Us want to hurt your feelings. You need to cut the brow tine off. I hope you accept my honesty in the spirit it is meant.

Not to be argumentative, but I make a lot of stag handle Scagel style knives and as soon as I seen this I really liked it. It's a fresh new look at things, I wouldn't cut the brow tine off but that's just me.

It seems a unique piece to me. I think it loses some usability with the extra antler piece on it, but I have a whole bunch of knives that get handled but never used.

I like seeing something fun and different!

The blade looks nice and the stag crown looks good but not the way it's put together.

Remove this section, properly remount the blade in the stag crown, darken the stag and I think it would be a winner.

Thanks for the advice guy's! I can understand the thoughts on removing the antler protrusion, but I thought of it more like a natural guard that anything else.

Something else to realize is that this is a relatively large antler and the handle space is fairly roomy, if you had larger hands your pointer finger may be a little up on the brow tine but that personally doesn't bother me too much. Once again thanks for the insight.
