I posted this in Dylan Fletcher's thread but I figured that there may be some folks that have never used an Esbit as a bush stove. So, here you go. I ran out of fuel tabs for my Esbit last week, and I really enjoy eating in the woods. So, I decided to make a one stick fire with my machete and saw. Turning my Esbit in to a Hobo stove.

The stick, machete, and saw.

Nice post man! Nothing like a hot meal cooked over a fire in the woods. What make of machete is that?

That machete looks real nice. Thanks for sharing the pics; nothing better than lunch out in the woods.

Looks like good times.

Nice job on the machete mods... deserves it's own thread.

WB - thanks for sharing! I haven't had a single day of dirt time in a couple of months & can't until Sep of early Oct. So, I really appreciate being able to live vicariously through you and Mistwalker.

Keep up the good work! :D

I almost never take utensils on short to mid length hike/trip because of a interesting accident where I went on a three day hike and forgot any kind utensils, not even my spork! so I had to eat with "trail-made" chopsticks. And that's the story of when I learned how to use chopsticks!

NICE...
That lil Esbit stove worked perfectly !! I made an Ikea hobo stove and packed it on my last camping trip.. Its pretty much a back-up to my small propane single burner.. If I ever run out of fuel in the middle of a meal the hobo stove "should" save the day...Now I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for an Esbit stove as well..Thanks.

Dude, thats an Ontario!? Whoa! I saw it when I opened it and thought, "ohh, another stormcrow machete I could never afford.." That handle is amazing. You gotta make a thread for it, i would gladly follow:D

Thanks guys. I'll have to post a "how to" thread about the Ontario. David Farmer did that one but he was kind enough to walk me through the process and I've done a few since with positive results.

Nice photos, it seems you know how to take care of yourself.

Only one thing, when you use a firestarting rod, use the back of the machete. It hurts me seeing that blade used to produce sparks.

Thanks. The back of my machete has rounded corners so that it doesn't eat through the baton. I've been using the edge for many years on certain knives with no damage. As with all things, it's all about technique. Most folks that are bothered by this have either never tried it or have not done it properly. Mistwalker can probably support my conclusion as I have noticed him doing it from tme to time as well. Either way, welcome to forum and W&SS.
