I'm a big spyderco fan, but recently I've been drawn away from spyderco knives by things such as Benchmade knives and starting with collecting customs and semi-productions. I went from $50-$100 spydercos to a $300 Sebenza, but no regrets, I love it. But now after spending all that money I'm back to buying production knives. I really wanted a nice gentlemen's knife... so I looked at all the options. I became particularly interested in an Al Mar lockback and Leguiole slipjoint, but I lost that interest after handling them for awhile in my favorite local knife store (it's called Knives A Lot for those of you who live in Orlando and are looking for a good store). I also was looking at a SOG Blink (but I think I'll just wait for the Twitch) and a Lonewolf Paul (so addictively fun! but so expensive!)

Then, I was looking through the case at spydercos just for the hell of it and my eyes landed on a SS Kiwi. After messing with if for a few minutes I fell in love with yet another knife:rolleyes:. It fit so well into my hand, like a scalpel, and I love wharncliff blades. The VG-10 blade is sooooo sharp out of the box, as with most Spydercos. WOOHOO! I finally found a great gentlemens knife and I'm a Spyderco fan all over again. Also, I'm still waiting for a Dodo in the mail, which I'm terribly excited about

Anyone else have a Kiwi and want to share their thoughts on it?
I may want to trade it for one with bone handles...got one?
Also, this is a long shot, but does anyone know where I might be able to have the Spyderco bug engraved on it?

I have been considering the SS Kiwi or Dragonfly for office carry. But the Kiwi has no pocket clip, don't you find that to be a pain in the butt?

Yep the Kiwi is a real beauty, I have a bone handled one.

Living in a very knife-phobic country I'm VERY concious every time I use a knife in public. But a few weeks ago I was at a wedding, sat on a table with people I mainly didn't know. I had cause to use the Kiwi a couple times that day, and each time if commented on at all the comments were very good, most thinking that it was very cute, whilst others wondered how it cut so well.

I think I'm becoming a Kiwiholic. First I got an SS one, liked it a lot, first Spydie I did not need to "de-clip". Then I had a chance to pick up one of the jigged bone ones, like it event better, the extra thickness just makes it feel a bit more natural in my hand. Kept looking at it and thinking that a Kiwi would look really great with green scales, mentioned that on the Spyderco forum here and Sal replied that Santa Fe Stoneworks does up Kiwis with stone scales, so now I have a Malachite one on order. And somehow, I already know it won't be the last one I get. :D

I fell in love with the jigged bone Kiwi from the pics of it. I had to have one. I think it is a perfect EDC knife for the stuff I need a knife fro every day. You're right it fits the hand perfect, the steel holds a very good edge, and I think the wharnie shape blade is probably one of the best. It also happens to be very sheeple friendly. The president of the company I work for has been spending a few days eack week at my office and my Kiwi is far and away his favorite of the knives I've shown him. I would say the quality, fit & finish is on par with my Spydie/Horn C27 which had a list price (way back when) of a lot more.

My compliments to Sal and the whole Spyderco crew on the Kiwi.

The Kiwi is a great little knife. Nice combination of new materials combined with an older feel for lack of better words. I don't have a problem finding mine in my pocket as I carry it with a small leather lanyard and a home-made slip sheath. Does a nice job of keeping grime out of the lock and it also protects the nice brushed bolsters.

I like the sound of the santa fe stoneworks kiwi...

I made my lanyard out of a brown shoe lace, the Kiwi came with the pouch.

ahhh, i see... i've seen those pouches on ebay, but you can't get them w/o buying the knife. oh well...

I had an early Kiwi, before the sheaths were included.
I use a soft calf leather slip sheath I bought from Chris Reeve's. Originally it was an Umfaan sheath ($10).

Unlike a lot of their other knives where they use a combination of pieces of stone worked into a design, the Kiwi just uses a single slab of the stone of your choice for each scale. They don't have a picture of it yet on their website (unless one got put up in the past week or so), but if you are really interested, you can email or phone them for a catalog, they show a couple in there, one in dinosaur bone and one in mother of pearl, plus they send you a little card with pictures of the various stones.
