First of all please don't take this the wrong way, but getting a racism infraction for this:

...and being a Sephardic Jew commonly thought of as Spanish Hebrew by blood and belief is a tough one to swallow.

Usually, I am not apt to espouse something this personal but in the sense of fairness, this may be something you want to think over a little more.

also if you are wondering why I post my picture in my sig, I am bald, not a shaved skinhead rather, I have a version of Alopecia Totalis.

Now, if you are wondering why I have chosen to post this very personal information, it is because I am not angry with you, rather I chose to inform you that being of Hebrew ancestry and making a comment with the word Jew in it, doesn't constitute a racist act, especially in the context of a humorous thread.

Hopefully, when someone looks me up for being a "Racist/Bigot" this thread may shed a little light on it.

I pm'd you on this one also with a more condensed explanation, today when finding out about this, but haven't heard back.

Maybe, asking a question before doling out a permanent infraction would be worth the time in this case. I know, I have Moderated before, it's a sometimes tedious thing at times but with power comes responsibility.

I am not calling anything into question about Bastid the moderator, I am not labeling him unfair, I am simply calling for a second look at this because "racist" is one name that I did not earn.

Hey, Zeke. The best thing to do here would be to be very contrite and respectful to the mods at all times. That way you'll never have to worry about that infraction again. That plus being respectful to your fellow forumites will virtually guarantee that you'll never get another and you won't get yourself banned. You seem like a good dude so I don't think you have much to worry about. I think infractions have been reversed but it is an extremely rare occurrence and would likely take a while with good behavior if it ever happens. Questioning the mods is never a good idea especially after you've caused one to react with an infraction. What they say goes. Just my $0.02.

The basis of the infraction came from that thought. By allowing it to slide by where do we draw the line next time?

The rules here are simple and quite clear regarding those types of posts. Maybe I am being too strict, I'll defer that decision to the forum owner, but until then I will not let those types of posts slide.

Zeke, your post could easily be found offensive/racially insensitive by anybody who didn't happen to know your background.

It could just as easily be found offensive by people who did know your background. You might be comfortable talking about your own people like that, but that doesn't make it "OK", since not everybody who's Jewish likely shares your own comfort with such remarks.

Without spelling it out for you myself, I'm certain you can think of other races and words they might use that in the words of others would be considered racist and defamatory. And just because some of them might use those words, that doesn't mean everybody of those races approves.

That said, I know it's not my job to moderate or dish out infractions, but a 30 point permanent infraction does seem a bit hefty. Just sayin...

I didn't realize you ran an entire small business and moderate a web forum, that's a full cup of tea.

Thank you for your response, the slippery slope argument is what you are trying to describe in that post, it is a valid argument.

I won't defer to anyone or buck the chain of command to the Supers or Spark on this, this is your infraction and my Scarlet R, I earned it, even if the sentence is permanent and harsh for a misdemeanor.

This isn't up for debate with the peanut gallery either, thanks for the support guys but this isn't about weighing in.

I do not necessarily agree that you earned it, maybe it was just the post that earned it. Sometimes judging a post and what it bodes for the future is totally different from judging an individual.

I try to stay away from judging individuals, if that makes any sense.

As far a jumping the chain of command. Not an issue for me at all. I do not want anyone here to feel that their posts were treated unfairly. I am a human that makes mistakes and am more than willing to own up to them, learn from them and move on with new knowledge.

Because of the level of misunderstanding and the subject being somewhat vague, a warning would have sufficed here. It was one post rather than a confrontation or trolling for attention. Zombie Zeke is a member for 4 years now, not somebody who is new. We all have made some mistakes at some time.

Another thing to consider is that your list of infractions is not viewable except by moderators, and the infractions expire in short order anyway. So unless you talk about it, or the moderator states in the the thread that an infraction has been issued, no one knows or cares that you were zapped. I figured this out after about my 6th infraction.

Additionally, one almost never thinks that he has merited an infraction. That is certainly the case with me. And it can make one grumpy. But it is the nature of internet communication that the reader cannot see into the heart of the poster to discern one's intent, demeanor, sarcasm, dry humor, etc.
