I just took some pictures of this Sweeeet little Plumb to help someone find a handle for one they have that is similar to her. The head, bit to poll is 6.25" and 4.25" on the bit. Her haft is 22" long and she is 24.5" overall. I believe that she has the original handle. With the "Patent Applied For" stamp, she is an early Plumb. She weights approximately 3.5 lbs, total. After digging her out of my collection, I think I'm going to take her up to camp this weekend to play with her.

I love the shape of her head, like a small rafting axe on the poll. I think she is a keeper. Looks like the bit needs a little work before she can go out & play. :nevreness:

i have several of the smaller versions.
Plumb knew a good design

wish some company would make these again

I like it. Quite a substantial poll.

In that first image it almost looks like the hang is closed too much. But once you see the whole axe you can see that it's hung perfectly. Is that big fawns foot clipped just a little?

Bet she is great to use. First thing I noticed is that hefty poll. I imagine little effort is required to swing this axe.
Beautiful pattern.

Trailmaker, This Plumb is in great condition for its age+
. From what I can tell it hasn't been reground or shaped in anyway to get it back in its original condition. Thus the poll doesn't really have many strike marks on it or any mushrooming. So I can't tell if the poll is hardened and I don't want to smack it to find out...lol. My best guess is that it isn't hardened, it just has the appearance of a rafting axe poll.

Square, I'm not sure what you mean by "clipped". After taking her out for pictures, I did notice that her bit could use some TLC before I take her up to camp to play with her next weekend. Other than that, she appears too be in good original condition with the original haft.

Very nice! I've seen those before on 'the bay' and thought they looked pretty darn cool, now after seeing those pics I REALLY want one...

Thanks :D

I have a few of these in this cedar pattern, if I remember correctly. They are a nice axe/hatchet, though I find them to be head heavy due to the pattern. However your haft length might be all the difference. The rafting poll is cool, though I think I have one that is indeed a hardened poll and one that isn't. Nice find, and those pics look good, I am sure it will be enjoyable to use. Let us know.

That is beautiful. Is 24" a common haft-length where you are? I've only recently seen just a couple between 28" and hatchet-size.
I hope you'll tell us how she handles when you get back.

Yesterday I said I wanted to take her up camp to and play with her...But she needed some work first.

Now she is ready to play or you can shave with her :adoration:

scrteened porch. No a 22 or 24 inch handle is not common, one of the reasons why I think she is so sweet.

Frank & others, thank you for the kind words. Can't wait to play with her. I've got an 8" diameter popple that came down at camp a few weeks ago and I want to limb it and cut it up a little.

Looks really nice, Tom. Nice job! Good looking pics too, you should take some more on your outing!
