I find interesting differences in my two latest acquisitions. The latest one (bottom one in the pictures) has a smaller font for "Buck" than the other and the 110 numbers are set farther apart than the other. I know now why the seller didn't show complete view of the knife, someone had engraved initials, a number and date (8-14-77) into the back bolster, handle and blade. Fortunately the worst of it is in the bolster and can be removed if necessary and the others are not as noticeable. It would be nice if there was a dating chart to sort out the "2 Dot" period closer using the font sizes. At least I know the new one was made prior to that date in 77.

It should be noted the last one I got has nicer grained ebony and almost looks unsharpened but with a few rusty spots. Tip is a little tweaked as well.

There is a brief mention of the different font sizes in the November1998 Newsletter (page3), but it doesn't give any information about dates.

Unfortunately, I've never seen anything in regards to font sizes in Buck stamps in the Buck archives. I've seen font size variations on other models as well and I dont know why this is. I am pretty sure that most stamp dimensions were reference only so there was some leeway on sizes chosen by our stamp vendor. But I am grasping at straws with this explanation though.

Hi Sithus -

Interesting post - now I'll have to pull out my two-dots and have a compare....

best regards -
