Ok,so I decided my next purchase will be the Buck Vantage, I just don't know which level I want. I'd rather stick with either the Select (in 420HC) or Avid (13c26) than go to the Pro in S30V, mainly due to concerns about edge chipping and sharpening difficulty. My question is: my local Bass Pro Shop has the Select and the Avid, with the Avid a few dollars more. Is it worth it to pay extra for the 13c26 blade, or will I notice a performance difference at all over the 420HC? It's intended use is an EDC/Do-it-all knife.

What kind of sharpening system do you use? I have no problem maintaining an edge on S30V on my Spyderco Sharpmaker. I can understand your hesitation but the for the better blade steel I would still consider the Vantage Pro. It's pretty good bang for the buck.

I'll be getting a sharpmaker in a short amount of time. Since it works for you with S30V, I'll consider it, but I may end up getting the Pro as a second/backup vantage, and using either the Avid or Select as primary carry, due to the low cost.
