I picked up a couple new knives today and thought I would share my thoughts on the brands and patterns that are new to me. Let me also say that I payed $20 per knife!

First up is a boker tree brand and I have to say that this is a really bad knife, this is my first traditonal boker and I can say that it is one of the poorest examples of traditonal knifemaking I have witnessed. Although my collection only consists of 2 GEC #15 boys knives, 2 GEC #73's, and some Case and a few vintage blades from camillus, remington and colonial.... I love the looks of the Boker stockman... but the fit n' finish is the worst I have ever seen and the steel does not wanna take an edge! A reasonable beater for what I payed for it though.. I had higher hopes for boker...

Second is the silver lining...

A schrade walden 804.... I love this knife! I had to know what all the fuss was about on these old schrades and now I get it. What a fantastic design with the backspace tapering and the steel took a very keen edge in no time. I dont know much about this knife(date of birth) but I dont care, I am sold on the vintage schrades. Absolutely fantastic! I dont know if I overpaid or underpaid, but what I do know is that this knife will be with me for some time.

Thanks for letting me ramble! Any info about the manufacture date/ sharing pics of your 804's would be much appreciated.

Great knives! Sorry to hear bout the boker but if its carbon u can get it to atom splitting sharpness. My bokers are hit and miss in the fit and finish department but, the steel is great. The old schrade will be a great knife also.

Ya know, I spent some more time on it and pulled out the diamond stone, Ill be danged if it didn't take a pretty good edge, and I have to admit that for an inexpensive knife it isnt that bad. It's kind of growing on me....

Nice to see a happy ending! :)

Yep. The modern Bokers can come with a mighty thick edge. Great steel, but you have to spend some time thinning that down before you can really get the most out of the knife.

[/IMG]I got a tree brand washboard bone lock back ages ago .Beautiful bone ,nice big blade like a clasp but the snap is more of a click.I didn't like it at first but as time went on i started to appreciate the quiet precision of the lock up on this knife.
