i finally got to test my two new bowies an my new camera..but im kinda bummed, took alot of pics sat. an sun. of testing my knives, after i clean up the blades,i find out my camera has to be sent back because of a defect, none of the pics came out,so i did do alittle testing mon. morning an used my phone to get some pics, but didnt want to create the whole test again..well lets get to it,two knives tested the svod tempsky bowie an the downunder outback..now i know the outback got alot of bad press here an it just might deserve it, but i like the look an just had to try it..
BATONING mesquite, mango,an pine, both did very well, but i must say the outback was a better knife just because of the thickness of the blade,it is a massive blade.
CHOPPING mesquite, pine, mango, pine 2x4's,would go to the svord its lighter so it was easy on the wrist, hand,an arm,the outback is heavy an it took deeper bites, but it also can wear you out trust me,note the outback is a very heavy blade an when you swing it be careful,i cut through a 1 1/2" sapling an it went through like cutting warm butter the problem is the blade is so heavy it came out of my hand an stuck in the ground about 6"from my foot, any closer an i be writing a totaly different thread..
HANDLING would go to the svord feels light in the hand great balance..
TIP PENETRATION pine stump,2x8 peices, mango tree both did very well,no problems..
FEATHER STICKS AN CARVING guave branches an haole koa both were good but i preferred the svord

my overall opinion
SVORD,great knife built to be a user an will be the one i choose, but fit an finish is on the rough side, handle could use thicker scales, balance is great, sheath is very good well constructed just like the knife, held a great edge ,no chipping or rolling, love this L6,carbon blades are my favorite, nice long handle,it feels light in the hand so you can control it in mid swing, great for brush cleaing an cutting trail, its my new hog knife for now.

DOWNUNDER this knife surprised me,440c wasnt bad held an edge almost to the svord, svord was just a tad sharper, had no rolls or chips,i hate stainless steal always avoided it but this knife opened my eyes alittle, well just alittle ,the fit an finish was alot better then the svord, blade is to heavy for a user in my opinion, handle is on the small side an the oval design makes it alittle uncomfortable to handle during long use,the sheath total sucks an i mean TOTAL,but the sharpening rod does work,i thought it was a gimick.i must say this blade is a chopper(just dont chop anything smaller than 2" if you love your toes)

i was going to test these an trade the loser, but i think i will just keep the outback it is a very good blade, the svord starts work next week ,when i start hunting agian...ALOHA

Thanks for the comparison Kalama. I have the Tempsky by Svord and I know how it performs so the Outback Bowie is doing pretty well. A lot better than I thought when I first saw the ads for it. It looks to be a lot better knife than I initially thought. I may get one some day if I get rich.I usually don't have anything to do with stainless large bowies but it seems this one can pull it's weight.
