hey guys. first it is nice to be back on the forums from a 4 day "vacation" (otherwise known as the National Youth Workers Conference).

anyway, a friend of mine had gotten a Lahar about a month and a half ago, not sure exactly, but its been a while. well i give it an inspection about once a week to see how its holding up and how well he's taking care of it.

well im proud to report that he has been taking good care of his knife (he's followed my instructions very well) and it is now time for a resharpening. he will be sending it out to Kershaw tomorow after school so it can be taken care of.

anyway, to the topic of this thread.

for all of you who think or have thought that VG-10 holds an edge for awhile you are all crazy. it holds it longer than awhile! my friend is in maintence at out school. he has used it everyday from the time he got it and only in the past week it has started to loose its edge. thats about 2 months of a very good edge being constantly used on everything he could use it on (he used it on refrigerator wire. i could hit him for that. it chiped the edge royaly. i told him not to and he has listened. he's a noob still). the knife has served him well.

so here is a shout out to Thomas and Tim and the Kershaw crew for making a excellent knife, with a far superior steel than is the norm. great job on the VG-10!

absolutely.... the Lahar is a big value knife... with fantastic fit and finish, as it is made in Japan. The VG-10 is wicked when sharp and holds a great wire edge. My only criticism is a sharp edge on the liner lock bar release area. Could have used some rounding or grooves. tough on the thumb.

VG10 is one of the best all around blade steels IMO. One thing you can count on is whatever steel is used, kershaw will have the heat treatment right. That is one of the biggest factors in wether a steel does what it is supposed to do, or makes people complain about chipping, bending edges etc. Quality control. Joe
