I just got off the phone with my cousin from way up in northern California. Earlier this year around Memorial day My brother and I met up with him and his wife at a fishing lake in the Sierra's for a few days and then stayed with them a couple more at their home.
While we were fishing, I used and let him try my B&C 486 for cleaning the fish. He liked it so much that I gave him a new one that I had with me. The guy is also retired, but to him retirement just meant that he could now spend most of his time building things and helping others remodel their homes and such.
Anyway, he called today just to thank me for the knife! He says he carries old "pinkie" everyday when he's working and it's the best work knife he's ever had. He does tons of carpentry from rough framing to fine cabinet work and uses the daylights out of the knife. He says he's had to touch up the edge a few times with crock sticks but it's held up great to lots of heavy whittling and carving jobs. It's still just as tight as the day I gave it to him.
He will be here next week for a working visit at my brother's, so I'm going to give him another one as a back up. I think I made a new convert to Buck knives!
