I've been lurking on these forums for a couple of years, I guess. Finally decided to register last night and this is my first post. Pardon me for muddling through and rambling on.

Sometime around 1989, I went to a gun show and was introduced to Spyderco knives for the first time. I bought a SpyderEdge Delica and a 203 Sharpmaker. Great knife and the Sharpmaker made it easy to maintain. Unfortunately, within 6 months I left the knife on the bumper of my truck and drove away. I went back to the next gunshow that came to town and bought an Endura with the full serrated edge.

I carried that knife almost every day until last year when I decided to semi-retire it. I'm not a heavy duty knife user but the Endura saw enough action to now be a kind of wavey plain edge. The grips are scarred, dented and worn smooth in spots. While I've heard the molded-in clip is a weak point, it's held up fine on my knife.

While I intended to buy another Endura, I looked at all the other Spyderco knives available now and I'm like a kid in a candy store. I've been experimenting. It's expensive but it sure is fun! I'm trying out the Natives, considering the Delica, the Meerkat is cool, the Chinook II is awesome and I just ordered a Manix (well, it's too big for everyday but sometimes you just gotta go with the gut feelings, you know). Maybe I should just buy one of each!

'Nuff said. I've rattled on too long. Thanks, guys.

Congrats and welcome.

Spydercos are user knives after you use them you love them.
After you use them, they are not so ugly.

Good luck with bug you have.

Hi Lee.

Welcome to the Spyderco forum and thanx for the history.

History on older models is always appreciated because it's "real world info".

No apology is ever necessry for "rambling". That's what we're all doing here. Very few, wham-bam, thank you....here.

Enjoy your visits here. I think that you will find, for the most part ;) , this is a very knife knowledgable, sophisticated and intelligent group of knife aficianados.

If you enjoyed your Endura, you may look closely at the Stretch. It doesn't "show flashy" but it "delivers"; easy carry, strength, high performance cutting, good traction and versatility.

The entire "business chain" from; raw materials, manufacturing, marketing, selling, distributing, shipping, warrantees, insurance, credit, etc. ALL EXISTS to service the ELU (End Line User). Remove the ELU from the equation and the entire business chain falls like a house of cards. We all work for you!

From the bold line [emphasis mine], you should fit in well here. :) The Endura is great, but no matter what you 'experiment' with, you couldn't lose with whatever Spyderco you choose. Hide the credit cards and have fun.

If you wander over to the passaround forum, you can try all sorts of spyderco knives for free!

Welcome to your new addiction.

I recently became a Spyderco addict. It's fun....and it keeps you out of trouble. :D

Good choice on knives too by the way.

Enjoy your stay.

Welcome to the World of Spyder-heads :D . You have come to the right place. Stay away from Cold Steels, Benchmade, Bokers  . They will let ultimately let you down  . It is like what "Fisher OF Men" said the Spydercos are good & pure and will keep you from going down the wrong cutlery path :D . In all seriousness I have been collecting knives heartily for the last 10 years or so. I have had several other makes models and I can say I have never dealt with a company that not only has the paramount essence of quality but I have not seen any knife company treat their customers half as good as the Great Spyder Factory does with their customers/collectors. Welcome aboard Sir. I hope we get to do a trade down the road. JD Spydo

I'm kind of new here myself. I am no stranger to Spyderco knives, but I am getting a little more focused on them with the new models on the way. I have a collection of all sorts.

I like the Natives also. The Delica is now VG10 steel, and stays sharp longer than the older generations. The Native III is also VG10, although the older versions were available in CPM steels. You really can't go wrong with any of them.
