A TGLB question

How "tall" is the Top Guard? The only thing holding me back is that guard. Everyone says don't worry about it, but how tall is it? It looks to be about an inch or so.

The top guard isn't as obtrusive as it appears. It sits just over a half inch above the top of the blade.
 
And it still very comfortable th choke up on. I thought the one by the choil would be obtrusive, but it actually helps with getting a good grip on the knife.

I find myself using the top guard a lot more than I ever thought I would. Very comfy to wrap your finger around for added control especially when pull cutting.

The TGLB was my second Busse but only by delivery date, as it was the first one I ever ordered. I thought the top guard would be uncomfortable too. After getting the knife all my concerns were soon forgotten :) It's a great knife. It is very secure in the hand, handle is very comfortable too, IMO. Best of luck in your decision :thumbup::)
 
A lot of bowie knives have enormous guards that are hard to work around. The top guard on the TGLB isn't very wide. It's only the thickness of the blade. I find it easy to wrap my thumb around it and rest the thumb on the blade if I want to.
 
It's not any sort of problem at all. In fact it's actually a nice feature for some knife tasks and does not get in the way of any others.
 
The knife is very versatile,has excellent feel/balance & the guard just adds to the package.
 
As the others said, the guard should not cause any issue. It is quite comfy during choke up too. Here are a few pictures to put things into perspective against a RMK #14 with #1 hilt.

The choke up on TGLB is definately more comfy and controllable. My entire palm is still very much resting on the handle of the TGLB.

I'll get Black Canvas, Blade color? Not sure but I'll probably strip her down anyways.
