A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to win Jwolf's give away and last Friday I had my new knives in my hand. I received a beautiful buck stockman with modifications and a fine Japanese higonokami.
The buck is a 2002 model and has custom convex grinds on the sheep afoot and coping blades. The clip point is original I believe. Now if you have read my past posts, you'll notice I'm normally a single blade fan, but I have really enjoyed this little guy. Honestly have found it to be an excellent knife in terms of comfort and function. The clip blade is just long enough for food prep and the convex grinds on the other blades make it an amazing cutting tool. I like the saw cut delrin handle material. This knife has seen some pocket time and is still looking fantastic. Lockup is solid and walk and talk are similar to that of a nice solid sak. Have carried the knife all week and it is just a pleasure to use. It is a keeper for sure.
Now the higonokami...this is an interesting knife. To me it screams worker. It is rough in terms of finish but it lacks nothing in terms of ability to work. It has quite a thick blade stock so can take a beating. The brass handle is a single piece so is quite solid. This is a knife I could see a farmer beat up for years and it would still be a solid user. It is beautiful in utility and simplicity. These knives have a neat history in Japan and I think they are a nice addition to a knife collector. I guess they are the sodbuster of Japan
. I haven't put this guy through the paces yet, but I will give it a go for sure. Right now I'm just loving this little stockman
Thanks so much again, and I just want to say that I have a very special giveaway planned for later this year or early next year. It is something I have been thinking about for a long time and is something I want to do to celebrate my completion of my masters degree and my first employment in my chosen career. It's going to be really great and I can't wait to get it started
