I just wanted to give my appreciation to all of you here in the forums. I'm not a professional knifemaker, and never will be. I'm a writer by nature, and a knife enthusiast. My job is to sit on the sidelines and write about the beautiful works of art you all create. Even though I am an amateur, I have never had a knifemaking question go unanswered on these forums, and never been treated as inferior because of my lack of skills.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to all of you knifemakers that help us hobby makers, and some of the beginning knifemakers on the board. I appreciate it greatly -- and I'm sure the other "newbies" do too.

I strongly second Michael's THANK YOU to all the fine, generous knifemakers who so unselfishly provide such a wealth of tips, advice, and encouragement to all us new guys.

I have a part-time business where I sell and sharpen scissors, especially hairstyling shears, as that's where the money is. I've also been a woodworker for many years, and have been sharpening all kinds of hand tools for years now.

In websurfing, looking for info on metallurgy, I discovered this and other knife websites, and since then have become more and more interested in making my own knives. All thanks for this is due to the folks on these sites, and I can really say is that without all of the help and info I have gotten here, I probably would never have even thought about making my own knives.

I bought a few knifemaking books, got some 1084 and O-1, and just ordered a Coote grinder.

So, I'm embarking on a new, exciting hobby, and I hope to meet some of you in person, as I begin taking a few forging and knifemaking classes

That's really great news, Eric. I wish I had a forum like this when I got into knifemaking, but no such animal back in those days. Welcome aboard, knifemakers! I agree with you, I've never met and exchanged with a better bunch of folks. How about, "Brothers of the Blade?"

I have to second the 'Thanks' to everyone on here, too. I'd be half of where I am by now, skillwise, without the help of the members here.
