A Thief Among Us - Chapter 2

Just had a call from the bank. Someone used my Credit Card info to make purchases from a company named Perfumania in Glendale, CA to the tune of $1,000. They also tried to make a purchase at WalMart for $2,000 yesterday but the transaction was declined. I don't know if it's coincidence but Glendale is only 20 miles from Garden Grove, CA which seemed to be the central point of the other card fraud transactions mentioned in this thread. Also, the only thing I've used the card for recently is to buy a knife, on the internet.

According to the bank I'm not liable for the charges, but I had to cancel my card and can't use my account again until this all gets straightened out.

Be careful folks. As my Grandfather used to say "There are more horses a$$es in the world than horses".

That's a shame, Blackdog. And just when you are back, too. Last week I got another call from my CC company, too. They said not to worry about it and this time I didn't even bother investigating. The internet is not secure no matter how many little keys they put on your browser. Time to dust off the old checkbook! Welcome back , anyway!

Craig, are the authorities any closer to catching the perpetrator?

Another thing that can happen is they daisy chain different cards giving that card as a reference.

It would probably be worth while to contact the big three credit firms to see if additional cards in your name have been opened. I believe you can have them place restrictions on how accounts are opened (approved). Tell them you've been a victim of fraud, they should be able to give you credit reports for free.

. I don't know if it's related to the other incidents or not, but I just received a bank statement that indicated several charges that I didn't make

. Apparently some contemptible piece of excrement used my account to purchase $2,500 worth of merchandise from Hewlett-Packard's on-line store as well as subscribing to a porn service. As in the other cases described here, I seldom used this card for anything but Internet cutlery purchases. The bank's fraud department said they will investigate the matter, but I don't have much confidence that any good will come of it. As much as I'd like to see the son-of-a-***** that did this strung up by the balls, I don't imagine that these types of complaints carry much weight in the legal system. The reps at HP wouldn't tell me where the fraudulently ordered merchandise was shipped, so I have no idea whether this was done by our "friend" in southern California or not. The account has been cancelled and I'm sure that I won't suffer any lasting financial damage, but it just chaps my @ss that this type of crap goes on. This worst part of this whole affair is that I'll probably spend the next several days brooding and thinking evil thoughts about the bastard that did this…I shouldn't let this worthless punk stress me out this much. Hopefully better days are comin'…

I know how you feel Jim. It would have almost been worth paying the charges if you were guaranteed an hour alone with the guy who made them.

At one time a man would hang for stealing a $20 horse. Sometimes I think we've "progressed" to far as a civilization.
