Hello,

Recently I purchased (and subsequently returned) a Benchmade 530. The knife has an Axis lock on it, but when I pulled back on the lock the blade would slightly open. This was due to the fact that the axis lock was kind of nestled into the tang of the blade. Now if this knife where assisted opening, than the process of opening the blade would be the same as on an auto-axis (pull back on the lock to open the blade) but it would still be considered an assisted opening knife because if the thumb studs where used it would open in the same way as a regular assisted opener. Sorry if I did a bad job of explaining this. If this knife existed, what would it be called? A dual action switchblade/ assisted opener?

i'm not 100% sure of the 100% correct answer.

but FYI: Australian Customs, in their infinite wisdom, have decreed that all Benchmade knives with the Axis Lock mechanism are considered "Assisted Openers" and are illegal to import into Australia without a permit.

hence: Benchmade knives are almost impossible to get in Oz.
