I was just thinking how great it is that the interest of knives has greatly increased in the last 10 years or so. Unfortunately for those of us who make knives we can sometimes get into competitons, but for the most part those who make them are usually more than happy to give help out to others. The same with collecting knives we sometimes can get into competiton here, but for the most part its true that we help each other out with advice.

With this ever increasing "black cloud" over the knife industry and the carry of knives, Its nice to see that as the opposite increases, so does the interest of knives. Its good to see that we have more people interested in knives who are for the most part law abiding, resposible people. It shows others that most of, are not law breaking people, but people who genuinely enjoy knives and not for wicked purposes.

any one have any thoughts here on this???

What "black cloud?" From where?

Today I went to a major sporting goods store in Manhattan. I couldn't believe the wide selection and massive sizes of knives for sale. Somebody is buying 'em.

It's one of the few places that sells real knives.

The few others... IceBerg Army Navy is another...

I've found that Tent & Trails has the best prices for the Air Force Survival Knife as well as the Marine Combat Knife, but otherwise, their selection is limited...

Leathermans, SAK's and the like are everywhere so don't fret.

I was looking for the full size Griptilian, but neither Tent and Trails nor Paragon had it. So I ordered it through 1SKS. But I was itching to have it today.:grumpy:

Bloody hell, you should try living in Blighty!! I risk arrest every time I carry a knife outside my house, unless it's a non locking knife with a blade less than 3" long. When I carry a fixed blade, I feel like a criminal. Still I have to say, that in 40 odd years, I have never been stopped by the police, and don't intend to start now.

The law does allow you to carry a fixed blade, with reasonable cause. I'd have one hell of a job to convince anyone I had reasonable cause to be carrying a Battle Mistress in public!!

I suppose I could always say...... Nope, can't think of any reason whatsoever!! Maybe I should think about moving? Mmmm South of France is nice this time of year. Makes you think!!

As far as regards buying a 'real' knife.... there are really only 3 dealers that I know of in UK that sell anything better than Swiss Army, or 'Camping knives' - you know the sort - $10, in a cheap rivetted sheath. There are custom makers of course, and I have quite a nice collection of Alan Woods custom blades, but at the price he charges, I wince every time I take one out of my drawer in case I mark a blade.

No, I think that all things considered, you are pretty lucky in the good old US of A. Knives freely available, and at the price the manufacturers intended. For me.... blade heaven.

Here's hoping Busse opens a branch in the UK........ please??

Regards,

Doug

Doug,
You could always move here to the US.
There's always room for one more.
We could use another freedom loving American who'll help to vote down the gun/knife grabbing Socialists here who are trying to steal our freedom.
If not, France doesn't sound to bad either.:)

Move to afghanistan...

Funny how some of the most "oppressive" regimes have little or no gun control...

savantuk,
Im really sorry for you, yes you have it much worse than we do.
If you look at the thread closely though its a positive one not negative.

maybe you should think about moving here???? at least you would be ablt to hunt here without being harrassed!!! unless of course you dont like hunting, and if so thats ok!
