I found this very interesting and wanted to share it with everyone here.
Makes me worry even more about our troops over there!!!!:(
here

For what it's worth, DEBKA has a very questionable reputation. Some of their postings do, indeed, turn out to be true and correct, but there are many postings which aren't either. I never trust their postings unless I see some more evidence or other outlets carrying the story backing them up.

YMMV.

This whole situation makes one wonder just how safe our troops really are and when they will be able to come home.

Keeping up just a bit with world events is a good idea and not sleeping more than 8 hrs. at one time isn't a bad idea either. From many locations we can be bombed in the middle of the night also. There are a lot of long range missiles around the world now that I'm sure are not all accounted for.

I think 9-11 should have been a wake up call that should never be forgotten but, it would seem that the majority of america has gone back to the same old don't give a damn attitude.

Hey, once they come home, they gotta pay for their own ammo! Can't carry openly either. But then they can pick what they want to carry, mostly, so that must count for something.

.........................................

OK, now to be serious for a few moments.
Under a hundred of ours dead at this point. I wonder how many would have died in traffic accidents if they'd stayed at home? How many will come home to the loss of someone who was living when they left?

In no way do I disagree with Yvsa's feelings. I'm simply pointing out we have a good deal to be thankful for so far.

I don't believe 9/11 changed anything. Well, maybe it woke up a few who had their heads in the sand. Most of those went back to sleep or are now scared s***less sheeple.

Most of you will understand when I say it's up to you to protect yourself. In most of the western states, that remains a way of life for many. Rarely do you need a way to protect yourself or your family. And if you remain prepared to do just that,it'll end 90% of situations right then.If you don't stay prepared, you and your family end up paying the price.

So how has that changed in 4,000+ years of written history? At present I keep my Winchester 94 in 44 mag to hand, but it ain't time to load up the AK mags yet. Leastways that's how I see it.

Signing off to try to put a better edge on my Sykes-Fairbairn ( cute 'lil toy ).

Some things mentioned in the post are strange, some are wrong, together they make a pattern that looks like propaganda to me.

Everyone who visited Iraq before 1979 or Syria now knows that they were/are autocratic regimes - but in these two states Moslems, Christians and to a certain extent even Jews were able to live together (actually the Baath-party has been founded by a christian). They were factors with actions one could calculate, children had to go to school (the rates of illiterates in Syris and Iraq was the lowest in the Arab world). No doubt that Hussein is (was?) evil and that Assad had certain sympathies for him but it will be a hard piece of work to really install democracy (and secure that democracy will stay after the first election.) Right now the average Iraqui sees that there was order under Hussein and looting under US-rule - they get the wrong impression, something has to be done about that.
On the other hand Jordan being the most democratic arab state faces free elections - and the analysts say that the islamists will win - I guess there will be no more free elections if this happens. So the autocratic regimes managed to stay free of islamist power, the arab democratic states do not and tend to be not stable. Right now islamist powers in Iraq claim a big part of the cake - they represent a certain not so small part of the population.
Makes me wonder if democracy undoubtedly being the right thing for countries of the western occidental world is really the gospel for every kind of culture

Thanks for the link, Yvsa, even if it isn't particularly uplifting.

I'm beginning to think that we're just at the beginning of a century-long war here.
