After being in a funk for a few months I have finally started to get a few knives together. All three were hand forged. The top knife has a 5160 blade that is 4 1/2", iron fitting, and a dyed figured oak handle. Middle one has a 5 1/2" Bruno 1095 blade, iron fittings and a kingwood handle. Bottom one has a 7" 5160 blade, iron fittings and a curly maple handle.

very cool, especially the cleaver, have 5 of them on the bench myself... they are nice to break up the regular "knife" work.

the little dagger is my favorite!

I really like that cleaver too. From a cook's perspective, the rock in the blade would give it much of the same utility as a chef's knife. I could see that getting a lot of use in my kitchen! Well done!

I made it with the ulu shape in mind. I went ahead and forged a distal tapper in it. Not sure if thats a plus or minus.

Here's some individual shots. I had a senior moment when trying to remember what steel I used with the little dagger. Its not 5160. Its steel a friend had sent me. It was part of a mechanical device used to lift a bell up in a 500 year old bell tower in Belgium. Not high in carbon but did harden up in oil.

Nice work. That "kingwood" handle is really beautiful.

Interesting. Do you know more about it? Which tower? In which city?

Kind regards,

Jos

I like all three:thumbup:,cool cleaver and the dagger would look good in the Dagger thread.

Dagger looks pretty awesome, sounds like a pretty interesting story behind it too.

Very Nice Ray, I'm glad you finally got those big lake trout off your mine and got back to work, that fish'in is hard on a body. LOL
