A Tom Anderson Collaboration...?

I am not big on advocating a "collaboration" between manufacturers and custom makers. I figure the manufacturer, especially Sal/Spyderco, knows what it wants when it comes to these arrangements.

I have to say though that Tom Anderson's "mini-mohawk" and "papoose" with the comfy looking handles, clip point configurations and (I assumed Spyderco licensed) oval hole would make a perfect Spyderco collaboration. In fact, the knives look like a Spyderco knives already...

And, already in two sizes... (Yeah, right... more SKU's

)

I think a 440v blade and a maroon G10 of the mini-mohawk and/or papoose designs would be a nice Spyderco collaboration. With this suggestion, I promise never to make another regarding "collaborations."

P.S. If you have seen the knives I am referring to, here they are:

Sing - I have seen Tom's work. Very fine and I've considered collaboraton. There are two obstacles that have prevented that direction.

1. I have really overcommited on the number of collaborations that Spyderco can do.

This means that we cannot do as good of a job as we would like in promotion (cost), we overspend on the tooling aspect and have to inventory more designs that we can afford to.

2. I know there were several other manufacturers interested in his work and they had a greater need for innovative design.

When I began our Collaboration Run back in'88, my goal was to connect the Manufacturers with the Custom Knifemakers Guild. It was a connection that I had enjoyed for many years and felt such a link would be good for manufactuers, custom makers and ELUs alike. Win win win.

I think that goal has been achieved. Now I have to focus more on our own innovation & design as we are spread too thin for maximum effectiveness.

hope that helps.

Sal,

Like I said, you know what you're doing. Actually, I am glad you're doing more in house stuff. Spyderco has been known for and will continue to thrive based on its ability to innovate.
