A traditional folder...and a fixed blade

While cleaning out my attic on this rainy afternoon, I found this fixed blade "knife" my grandfather whittled for me when I was four or five years old. Pictured with it are the actual knife he carved it with (his only pocketknife for 70 plus years) and his sharpening stone (the only one he ever owned).

Finding this brought back a lot of memories. Those are my initials carved into the handle...

A pleasant evening to all.

Very cool!
How awesome to have the "knife", Case, and the stone!
Thanks for sharing that

What a rush of nostalgia... it's great that you have his knife also!

That is simply awesome, Andrew! I have a couple of my grandpa's woodcarvings around, and they are absolute treasures to me.

Very cool, thank you so much for sharing!

Thanks--
I was not expecting to find this. I'm in the process of typing up a collection of letters my grandfather wrote to my grandmother during WW2. I'm sort of doing my own archaeological dig through family history. I had forgotten all about this wooden knife (it's been 35 years at least--) but once I saw it I remembered it immediately. Even more special was knowing I have the knife that carved it. My grandfather passed away on Memorial Day two years ago, but these small connections keep him with me.

That is so cool!

Thanks for sharing this piece of your personal history with us.

Nice to see that beautiful Case again Andrew. I remember when you posted it up the first time and told us about your Grandfathers passing. So nice to have found the wood carving he made for you. Think I'll carry my 31-1/2 today to celebrate for you!

Thank you, sir! I am sure grandpa would appreciate it.

Now that is cool!
Just think about how many swipes on that stone would it take to give it that swaybacked appearance.

That's awesome! I'm still somewhat of a newb to knives but is that Case a Barlow style?

It's a real beaut, regardless.

Thanks! It's a "regular" jack. Very similar to a barlow, except a barlow has an extended bolster, where as the regular jack just has the "normal" bolster. Otherwise, it would be the same as a barlow.
