Everybody knows the Spyderco Terzuola C131 Slipit, right?

Well, after I got one, and played a bit with it, I researched the locking system. After contacting Bob Terzuola himself, I found out what I wanted to know. I asked Bob if I could have a maker make me a custom slipjoint with this system, and Bob kindly gave his permission! (Thanks Bob!).

So I started thinking about a "traditional" slipjoint pattern, but with the "Terzuola Ball Grip System". As an example I took the "Zulu" pattern, but allowed the maker to give it his own twist in the bolsters. Decided that I wanted 2 of these, an EDC (ATS34 steel, titanium handle with green micarta scales), and a "dress" model (mammoth/damascus) to go in the collection.

The maker I chose for this task was Martin Annegarn, also known as "MaKnives". We did a couple of projects together already, and they always turned out great.

OK, to cut a long story short, I gave martin a rough design, a Spyderco C131 to "dissect" and study, and he went to work.

The EDC model is finished now, I'll quote Martin's thread from another forum: (click on the pics to see them BIGGER)

MA Slipjoint or MA Streetlegal

As ordered: A folding knife without lock like the Spyderco Terzuola 131CFP, as the delivered drawing in ATS34 titanium and green linen micarta.
Bob Terzuola gave his approval to use this system, witch I changed a little. Using just 2 detentballs instead of 4.

Blade : 73mm with 70mm cutting edge ATS34 3mm thick
Handle : 105 mm
Liners and bolsters : titanium
Scales : Green linen micarta

Two other knives with this system will follow.
Keep you posted
Oh and almost forgot to mention that I have to make one wtih damaststeel blade and mammuth scales.

Kind regards,

Jos

Jos, PLEASE post this on the Spyderco forum. I want you to do the honors. I've been begging them to make a "traditional" slip joint, with the Syderco touch, of course. Looks like you beat them to the punch. I get very little positive response or support for the idea. But your knife is a knock out.

This is the type of thing Spyderco should try for all trad fans. I know I'd buy one.

abcdef, there's very little "Spyderco" in this knife... only the Terzuola Ball Grip system, which, until now, was only used in the Spyderco C131.

Glad you like it!

Kind regards,

Jos

Understood, but you still make my point. Spyderco has already come close with the 131.

Not in the least. Tell us about it.

It's a Spyderco - Terzuola cooperation. Slipjoint, so we Europeans can legally put it in our pocketses. It doesn't have a spring like traditional slipjoints, instead it has 2 "spring" liners inside, with detent balls, and these detent balls grip in corresponding holes in the blade, so it stays semi-locked in the closed, open and half-stop postion. I really liked the system, but the "cosmetics" are not really up my alley!

So in my search for the "ideal" legal EDC, I came up with this idea, discussed it with Bob Terzuola (who didn't take orders at the time), and had Martin Annegarn make me this folder. He is also going to make me a "dress" version to go in my collection! :D

Here's a pic of the Spyderco C131:

Jos: Thank you! That's the education I needed to understand your excitement.

Good stuff.

Maybe interesting for you guys (and girls) to see how this knife came to be:

Martin received from me a Spyderco C131 to study the system, and this "design study" of what I wanted:

First I planned to have the EDC with walnut scales and damasteel bolsters, but then it would have been "too nice" again to carry, so I asked Martin to switch to plain bolsters and green micarta scales.

Kind regards,

Jos

sweet knife!
The legal side is good as well, it´s hard to keep track what you can and can´t carry on what side of wich border

Took some quick pictures today. This perfect little folder has been living in my pocket since I got it!

Together with my other most important tool, my notebook! (Random Access Memory! :D )
