Recently Trevor Ablett, of Sheffield Little Meister fame, has retired after a long life committed to making knives.
Let's show ours now they are getting hard to get if not impossible.

Nice collection jolipapa . I wouldn't say they were hard to get yet in the UK but I guess they will be over time . its a real shame when these old cutlers retire with out passing on their skills and knowledge . Luckily there are some younger guys picking up the torch. Like Paul mason . but the old time Sheffield cutlers are fading fast .

As you say, they were not hard to get, but as of today they are very scarce and when you find one, price has raised a lot! What are the handles of yours? Cherrywood?

To be honest I am not sure but there are more than likely Cherrywood:)

Well......cr@p....
I own one and I gave my brother one as a gift. Great little knives; I was going to buy an Ettrick in camel bone come next pay day. Just been on the web and your right Jolipapa, can't find them anywhere. I didn't know he was retiring so I guess thats what you get for taking your eye off the ball.

Good idea for a thread Jolipapa.

I hope Trevor Ablett enjoys a long and peaceful retirement, at least he leaves behind him a lifetime of knives and cutler work, most of the rest of us don't leave much behind if we even get to retire, except life...

I'd like to get hold of one of those Ettricks of his. Here's my Barlow in stag.

I hope he enjoys his retirement, though all I know is that he stopped working because he had some severe health problems. Let's hope all is behind now and he's in good health again.

I regret I could not get a twin blade with ram handles.

Will, check you PM.

I was over in Sheffield today, and I'm afraid Trevor's health is not well. Very sad :( Best wishes to him

Jack, I'm afraid you're right about T.W.A' s health. Do the Loyalty Card mean you've got a few others like this beauty?

Yes, I heard the latest when I was in Sheffield on Saturday :( The loyalty card is actually from the cafe at the Kelham Island Industrial Museum! However, I did buy the knife below at the museum.

I gave it away to my good friend Stephen 'Old & In The Way' some time ago though. The Sheepsfoot is the only knife of Trevor's that I still have. Some of the other Sheffield museums had also recently started selling Trevor's knives, and they seemed to be selling well, so it was sad when I visited on Saturday to see they are all gone, and missing from the two shops which used to stock them also. There won't be anymore I'm afraid :(

Naturally it is sad but it contains a lot of interesting things and Trevor Ablett's dialect shines through too:thumbup:

I think that's an extremely well-written and moving piece Will. However, I should say that for almost my entire lifetime, I've heard the phrase 'Last of the Little Mesters' applied to some old Sheffield cutler or another

The pic from the article Will linked contains a lot.

Plenty of films of Trevor working online
