My Father, Clyde Everett Higgins passed away last night at 7PM. His bed in Blue Hill Hospital overlooked the bay he loved so much. Unable to struggle with him any longer, for fear of injuring herself and my father, Mom decided to consult with hospice and got him a room for some respite care. He passed peaceably last night.

WWII Veteran, Korean War Veteran, and US Naval Reservist.

A man of many talents. Machinist, engineer, inventor. There is no doubt in my mind, that had he discovered the world of knifemaking 30 years ago, that he would be one of the greats we revere now. A man of few words, but a good provider and father. God Bless you, Dad. You've gone to a better place.

Jhiggins,
He sounded like a good provider and a LOVED MAN. What else could be more special than Him.
My condolences.

Thanks, Folks. This is not for him, but for me. My father wants nothing but to return to the cosmic dust from which his atomic matter came from. He requested no funeral services. No interrment. No obituary. His desire was to have no traces of himself left on the Earth.

So here I go and do this, just for myself to say it, and so that others will know that my father was loved.

My father's brother, Ralph went the same way last February. He was an original, to be sure. His 15 minutes was that he starred in a Camels cigarette commercial back in the 60s. Maybe some of you remember it. It depicted a man clad in hip waders, carrying a clam hoe and a hod, leaping from ledge to ledge on the rocky Maine coast. My father died like Ralph did, a mere 75 pounds, alone, in diapers. God Bless them both, but its no way for a war hero to die.

My wife was tempted to take his picture as he lay in that hospital room - oxygen hooked up to his nose (of which he was unaware), as a reminder to our grandkids never to take up smoking. I said no, just because I did not want to remember Dad in that way.

Thank you all for your sympathies. God Bless you all.

Prayers sent for you and your family. Your need to share this tribute to your father speaks volumes about the way he lived his life.

Condolences to you and the family, Jeff.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Higgins. Enjoy all the wonders of Creation, Sir!

Higgy,
I got to say, my Mom went to Heaven in 2002, my Dad in 1996....
I sincerely hope they meet you Dad in 2006....
Take care Friend.
I hope we meet some time soon....
Peace to you and your Family,

I too am sorry to hear of your loss Jeff. My faher died the same way. Smoking and drinking has taken away our loved ones. It should be illegal.
God bless you and your family.

I send my best wishes to you and your family. My mother died from the effects of cigarette smoking in 1993.

I hope that someday people will no longer use this lethal substance.

Truly sorry to hear of your loss, that generation is very special. My dad too was a WWII vet and when he passed away in 90' my life lost one of my best friends that I still miss deeply today.
God Bless your mother and family, I will have you in my prayers this night.

Warm Regards,

Bill
