When i read about Progunner and what some of you did for the young Marine. I had to share this with all of you. This is my email to Progunner.
Dear John,
I was in Vietnam 1965 -1967 as a Marine dog handler. I carried a Randall
and when i came back home i sold my knife due to a marriage and no money. A
couple of years later i was talking to my dad who was in the Army Airborne
for 32 years ( 3 wars WWII , Korea and Vietnam). I told dad i wished i'd
never had sold my knife.
I still had the fellows name but had no idea where he was and this was
before the internet. My dad being a Command Sgt Major found the man and
bought the knife back for me. The Christmas of 1970 he gave me my knife back
to me. I cried like a babbling idiot.
My dad died in 1978 with cancer. He had only 8 years of retirement. When i
look or hold that knife i see my dad and that blade saved me a time or two
in Vietnam. I guess i could feel that young mans pain and regret.
God Bless you,
Roger
I'm very proud of all you!!
