An Italian "portaroncola" belt hook. Fits every machete I've tried in it in addition to the billhooks it's usually used for in Italy. A simple but genius invention. Great for all those sheathless machetes with shapes that are difficult or cost prohibitive to cover in custom leather.

When doing a lot of highly active moving it would be best to keep the tool in your hand rather than on the hook, or cover it with a "hobo leather" sheath. When just spot-walking from work site to work site or when you stop to do something like taking a drink of water, etc. it's perfect for holding the tool to free up both hands without you having to toss it in the grass. Takes up no space on the belt when it isn't busy holding a tool, too.

Looks very useful. Reminds me somewhat of the traditional holder of sickles in Nepal, a circle of wood with a slot for the blade, as shown in the first picture below. Holds the uncovered blade out of the way.

...interesting shots of the traditional Nepalese sickle in use.

Similar wooden holders were also used in Europe as well. This one is German but I've seen a lot of French ones as well.

I like it. That'd be real handy for my Woodsmans Pal out in the field. Where'd you get it?

It's made by Rinaldi of Italy. I'll be carrying them in the shop very soon--this one was an advance sample to see how I liked it. :)

Neat idea for short term transit or hands-free temporary storage (ie to answer or manipulate your I-phone) but I'll tell ya I'd be awful leery of putting myself in a situation of tripping or falling on uneven ground/wooded area with a get-up like that! Recipe for disaster!

Yup! Hence the comment about some form of additional covering for the edge if doing a lot of active moving, or else keeping the tool in your hand while active. However, in most falling circumstances the edge will be oriented facing away from the direction of force--if you were to fall on the same side as the hook I'm pretty sure the worst you'd experience with most tools would be a minor cut to the fabric of your pants. You would be experiencing the flat of the blade slapping against your person and it would only be and side to side action along a raised surface that would be able to be cut. I've been wearing various tools around all day and not once felt as though it would endanger me. It locks it in place pretty well!

Rubber edge cover stripping. Just cut it to length. Works very well for most blade shapes and stock thicknesses. :)

Snapped this video today showing one in action. For those that are curious we have more on the way but it'll be another 2-3 weeks for them to arrive.

I like it. I carry my machete in a leather sheath on the belt but there are plenty of times when I just need to set it down for a moment but don't want to take the time to wipe it down and sheath it. Having one of these on the opposite side of the belt or in back is the perfect solution. I'd like to try one when you get them in. Please keep me posted.

Sweet! But an exposed edge makes me nervous.

I've found the carry method totally safe even with a shaving-sharp blade and walking the full length of a large field. Naturally you want to be mindful of the fact that you do have the naked blade there, but the edge actually rides away from the body. Also, the edge cover material I posted above a while back can add some extra safety for longer distances and takes up minimal space.

Precisely! It's like having a third hand to hold the tool for ya'. No more chucking it in the grass every time you need both hands free. :)

Joe Flowers took one with him on his latest jungle excursion and found it a handy piece of kit.

It would be especially nice for my longer 22" and 26" machetes. Those are awkward to sheath.

Man, I really want one of those. It is listed on your site but when I try to add it to cart the side say "This item is not currently available. Please contact us for availability of this item." I am guessing that it will still be a couple of days before the machete carrier is for sale on your site?

It'll be a couple of weeks right now. The initial batch sold out fast, and we have more on the way from Italy. Takes the boat a while, unfortunately. :)

It's a small and unobtrusive enough piece of gear that mine's become an EDC item.
