Well... I thought about not mentioning it because I went off on such a goofy tangent in it... but I started a thread in shop-talk about making a Turkish Twist integral.

Before everybody screams at me about making this and not working on orders, it's just a sideline to have a knife on my table in Reno. The show is touted as having NO PRE-selling going on, so I have to have a knife that is done and ready for sale.

This will be it. Then I will get back to Mitch Lum and Jim Cooper's knives. Sorry, you too STeven ;) :D

Anyway... this thread really shows what a giant dork I am, but that's okay... I don't mind. It also shows the kind of stuff that I am passionate about. I hope that you can look past the goofy just enough to see that passionate part.

Yes, the dork factor is quite evident. :p

Great thread though - somebody is going to be REAL happy at Reno.

And don't forget my camp set - ahem. :-)

Man, you are makin' my head spin with all the forging talk. I guess if I started discussing Layer masks in Photoshop with ease, you'd be doing the same thing.....

Goofy + passionate + mad skillz = Exceptional knives.

Naomi's a keeper.

Very cool thread there Nick. I find the process fascinating.

Makes me want to go to a hammer-in some time.

Thanks for the link to your other thread... I would have otherwise missed a good one!

That knife is looking good so far. I also really like the look of the second bowie down in the original drawing.

Thanks fellas! :)

The thread started was just some random thing to put up some pics of hot work.... just for fun. The interest that was shown made it all sort of blow up.

I feel like after receiving my Js from the ABS I am in a position to do what I can to help spread some love for forged blades. I simply can't be at all the functions down south but I can do things like that thread.

We all know there are a hell of a lot of smiths that are better than I am... but if I can show some people things they haven't seen before by stepping into a bit of a spotlight then that seems okay to me.

Coop... you are seriously one cool cat! I am glad to call you a friend.

Joss.... I didnt forget about your integral, but never heard back after some of those ivory emails so I figured you'd lost interest.

Peter- GO TO A HAMMER-IN!!! You'll love it! :)

Keith... thank you... the big bowie in the pic is going to become the ever so lovingly named, "Danbo's Doom." PTGDVC may argue that one, but I doubt it ;)

THANKS GUYS!!!

Nick,
A belated thanks for one of the very best threads ever, informative, entertaining, (altogether better than animal planet.)
For those of us who can't make it to Reno, you are going to post the finished Integral, aren't you.
See you at Atlanta,
John

Great thread, I have enjoyed it very much.

I can't wait to see the finished product, like everyone else.
Deny us this and I predict a forum-riot.

It is good to see photos of a knife being made. I doesn't matter if it is forged or stock removal, seeing the process gives us a greater appreciation of the finished product. "I took this and made this."

Thanks

Thanks guys! :)

John, being as humble as you are... I doubt you know how much your post meant to me... but let's just say it made my day!!! :D Thanks my friend! :)

I will have Eric photograph it in Reno and see if I can't get it to sway towards New York for some Coopmagic after the show :)

What an Awesome Thread!!

This one goes in the best of best category!

Come on, Nick, why do you waste your time on those ABS cookie cutter bowies? LOL. Somehow you innovated a new subspecies of bowie . . . the sexy bowie . . . all the right curves in all the right places, but sexy with broad shoulders. From the sketch it has more charisma than your entries in the best bowie contest. And for the finished images you have me salivating in front of my monitor.

Thanks, buddy, for torturing me with another view of the blackwood/damascus blade, knowing its the 3rd of 3 transcendent knives of my style in my 65 years. Funny thing is blackwood is neither my fav wood nor is damascus my fav steel. But together . . . the wordsmiths call it synergy. My reoccurring nightmare is you sending the knife to me, waiting patiently like Pavlof's dog, then learning the USPS so mangled delivery that it ended up unrecoverable somewhere in the Big Apple.

When enthusiasm and passion boil over some may call it dorky; I don't.

The custom knife sub-forum of BF is full bodied venue for makers, collectors, and knifenuts alike. But when it comes to inspiration, education, and promotion of forged knives all wrapped up in one, this thread is the alpha and omega. I had no clue how Turkish Twist was made. I do now, punctuating a new appreciation and interest in damascus steel.

Bravo Nick.

wow...
i love the tutorial! i just cant wait to see the knife finished!
and it inspired me to make something like it.. not in as fancy steel.. but it is a departure from my style.
thanks!

Great thread, I am jealous of your shop!

I am starting to worry if you sneezed while doing grinding on this one or something... :D

No no no.... I'm not dead yet. :)

The knife is neither complete nor destroyed. There's some issues I'm having with the handle that are keeping me from calling it done.

The very patient collector who is getting this has been kept up to date and understands my ADD/being overly particular.

I am working on this one and three others that are orders... trying to keep my word on getting orders filled and in the mail.

One knife was ready to ship when I decided to do a last minute touch-up... I accidentally closed the bench vise jaws on the handle and completely f'd up the handle... As in had to cut it off and start over. So sometimes my luck is not the best, lol.

It will get done, Paul Long will make a sheath for it, and Coop will shoot it :)

And said collector better sleep with that knife under his or her pillow...lest this collector gets it in his already suspect head to travel North to the Land of Ice and Snow..To Liberate that fine Example from his or her possession :D
