A vendor for 5/32 Mosaic Pinning??

Sorry, I asked a similar question a few days back. I was asking if any of us had a small amount of 5/32 mosaic pinning they might sell. No bites, so does anyone have a vendor they like to deal with that offers it?? I am looking for mosaic of material other than steel. The few vendors I have cataloges, or have delt with, don't seem to offer it in that diameter. I also need a little 1/8 but that seems easy to find.

Thanks

Roger

OK Rlinger, I have your pin for you.

I have copper 5/32 tube with brass insides. There is a square surrounded by 4 pins, then 2 pins inside the square. Makes a nice pattern in a small package.

I had some like the above link. However, they all looked too 'daisy' for me. This one looks more geometeric.

Interested in 6" of it? (I want the other 6"). You can have it for the price of shipping and a tube of black epoxy.

Steve

PS. I've only made one other mosaic, but it came out well. I think I can pull off another one.

BTW I came up with a method for getting the epoxy in there. Having tried the vacuum method without success, this one really works.

I wonder if anyone is interested? It requires a special tool - $.50.

Steve,

You bet! YOU BET!!!

The only epoxy I am familiar with that approaches black is JB Weld. What is the name and where do I get it or would you rather have the cost of it?? And, let me know how much for shipping and we'll get this thing going.

Roger - and Thanks, THAnks, THANKS!

I especially like the two different metals as opposed to one type only. It will give a better contrast since the handle material is predominately light brownish.

Devcon 2ton comes in black. That's what I used, haven't found a void --- yet.

I'll epoxy it up and send it with a bill. Probably about $50 since you want it so bad ;).

How about a friend's discount? Let's make it about $8.

Steve

Steve,

Sounds just fine. Email me your address and I'll get a check out tomorrow.

Roger

Ok Rodger you got a new grinder and your tracking down Mosaic pins I want to see it when ure done :)

You will. I won't post it though until Chuck Burrows finishes the sheath and I don't expect shipping for sheath work for a couple weeks yet.

Steve, what is the special $.50 tool that does the job for making pins? From reading the forums I have heard of using the vacuum method, but if you have something better, please share!! Thanks.

Bill

Bill,

I tried the vacuum method with a food packer - wouldn't work. Here's the short answer:

12cc Syringe from the feed store.

Here's the long answer:

Drill out the business end of the syringe to match the OD of the pin.

Suckup the epoxy (depends on pattern, but about 3-6ccs).

You will get air voids - this causes problems. So, insert a nail into the syringe to create an air vent and leave it there. When you push the plunger up the air will leave first and you'll get a nicely filled up syringe.

Now insert the pin and push! If it pops out or you need to reload besure you don't allow any air in the end of the pin.

Warming the pin helps it flow easier, but the epoxy will setup faster.

Hope that helps,

Steve

Steve, thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I will definitely give it a try.

I received Steve's pinning today. It is as good as any I have seen. For as small as 5/32nd inch diameter the design can be seen too.

Steve, I understand all except where the damn nail is supposed to go. I sometimes appear slow and this is one of those times. I can't figure out where I am supposed to punch a nail into it.

RL

hahaha, Sorry Rlinger I forgot that part.

Push the nail into the syring thru the hole you drilled. Actually anything smaller than the hole will create the vent.

Glad you like the pins. Once they are in the material and finished they'll look better. The internal pins are kinda flared where I cut them.

Steve

Sure Steve. They're not going to be flush until finishing.

I like them alot. Well done. Stay in practice.
