I'm very sorry folks for not updating ya'll sooner.
I received this knife from Fausto in a giveaway a while back.
I feel bad for the very late post.
Here are some photos that I took with the giveaway knife that I shipped to Jack Black (the blue one on the bottom).
ETA:
Now that my daughter is asleep maybe I can actually finish this post LOL.
I get the most use out of my knife at work, albeit not "hard use".
I work as a nurse in a hemodialysis clinic.
We go through a lot of saline bags in order to prime the dialysis line. When we discard the saline bag it's faster for me to either
1) cut a vent hole so the saline bag can drain faster or
2) just cut a big slit in the bag and dump the saline. Depends on the situation which I chose to do.
I usually use the sheepsfoot, although I have used the spey blade unintentionally. I had to adjust to the sheepsfoot being on the other side.
When we discard the IV lines we have to separate the "spike" from the line since its considered a sharp and needs to go into the sharps container along with syringes/needles. Some of the spikes just comes off by twisting but others needs to be cut from the line. I choose to use my pocket knife to cut off the spike rather than use the very dull scissors that we have on unit. (I do also have my own scissor in my pocket and I sometime prefer my scissor for this job when I have my hands full)
This job is usually done with the sheepsfoot.
We also discard K+ baths (aka acid baths) that we use. Its a big jug full of different concentration of electrolytes. It can be pretty hard on the blade I imagine but I have not had any problems with my pocket knives, even on my CV pen knife that I sometime use. I only had some spots (no rust) when I failed to wipe it down after the end of the day. I cut a vent hole so that I can dump the remaining K+ bath into the hopper.
This job is usually designated to the clip as the jug is pretty thick and the tip of the clip penetrates it the best.
As you can see in this image the spey blade of the buck has a lot less belly than the spey of the case. It's almost closer to a sheepsfoot when you compare it to the case. It has enough of a point for me to open up the saline bags.
The sheepsfoot on the 303 rides much lower than the case. It took a while for me to get used to the lower riding 303 since I was so used just pinching open the case. Now that I'm used to it it's second nature. The 303 sheepsfoot is a bit more pointy than the case. And as most people know the sheepsfoot is on the opposite side on the 303 than the case, which is another thing I needed to get used to.
The clip point on the 303 is more stout than the california clip of the case. You can also see that the nail nick on the buck is very different than that of the case. I don't prefer one over the other but interesting nonetheless. You can see how high the sheepsfoot rides on the case in this pic. I also thought it was interesting that there is a swedge on only one side of the blade.
The closed length is smaller on the 303. I expected the 303 to be thicker than the case with the 3-spring design but actually it's pretty close. Unfortunately I don't have a comparison pic of the thickness on hand.
The pins on the 303 is not flush with the scale compared to the case (I believe by design) but it is not uncomfortable as it is rounded out.
I wipe all my equipment at the end of the day with Cavi-Wipe (Bactericidal, Virucidal, Fungicidal, Tuberculocidal) so it's nice that I don't have to worry as much on the delrin covers. I'm not sure if it has any negative effects on bone covers (haven't noticed any yet) but I'm sure the delrin would be more resilient to the chemicals. (please correct me if I am wrong).
Ok I wanted to add more but I need to come back again to finish since my daughter is calling me.
Well I hope I didn't bore anyone by all this writing.
All in all I like both stockman. Very different but both very functional. It's very interesting to see how different makers has different interpretation of the same pattern.
I won't be at work for another week as I am recovering from a septoplasty to fix my broken nose that is causing poor sleep quality.
So, the 303 will be used for more domestic work at home.
Thanks for reading.
